Mission

We are looking for a BESS Project Engineer to join the Engineering team, within its BESS unit, on our utility-scale battery storage projects in Italy, part of a pipeline of more than 1 GW moving into construction from 2027. Working side by side with the BESS engineering team, you will bring together all engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, grid connection, control, safety) to deliver a coherent, compliant and buildable design package on schedule. A hands-on role with real technical substance and visibility across the full project cycle, from tender to handover.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Coordination: own the engineering deliverables plan, coordinate internal discipline engineers and external design houses into a single design package, manage interfaces (grid connection, PV side on hybrid sites, civil and BOP), run design reviews and escalate decisions requiring design authority as option analyses.
  • Technical Content & Quality: check and consolidate BESS design (layouts, single-line diagrams, protection and earthing, PCS, HVAC, fire protection), verify compliance with specifications, Terna Grid Code, CEI 0-16 and fire safety requirements, and maintain the technical baseline and change log.
  • Contractor, Supplier & Site Interface: review integrator, EPC and BOP designs and track comments to closure, handle RFIs and non-conformities quickly during construction, and support FAT/SAT, commissioning, performance testing and handover to O&M.
  • Procurement, Schedule & Permitting Support: support tenders (technical scope, specifications, bid comparison), feed engineering status and risks into the project schedule, and prepare technical documentation for permitting and fire authorities.

Job Requirements

  • Education: degree in Electrical or Energy Engineering (Mechanical or Civil with strong electrical exposure accepted).
  • Experience: at least 6 years in utility-scale power plant engineering, of which 2-3 on BESS or HV/electrical-heavy projects.
  • Coordination: proven experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines and external designers while holding deliverable dates.
  • Technical Skills: ability to read and challenge BESS electrical design (single-line diagrams, protection coordination, PCS and integrator architectures, auxiliary systems).
  • Grid Connection: working knowledge of Terna Grid Code, CEI 0-16 and the connection process.
  • Languages: fluent Italian and professional English.
  • Desirable: BESS fire safety and fire authority interface; hybrid PV and storage projects; commissioning and performance testing on operating plants; document control on large EPC projects.
  • Soft Skills: coordinating without authority, technical credibility, closing open points rather than letting them age, and a site-oriented mindset; comfortable on site and in front of contractors, available to travel regularly.

  • National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL): Italian National Collective Labour Agreement for Employees in the Electricity Sector
