About the Role We are seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to become a key long-term member of a collaborative engineering team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a cloud-based analytics platform used by hospitality businesses across New Zealand and play a pivotal role in its ongoing evolution. Built on Ruby on Rails , PostgreSQL , and hosted on AWS , the platform has an exciting product roadmap focused on expanding analytics capabilities, introducing AI-powered reporting, enhancing third-party integrations, and continuing platform modernisation. You'll work closely with an experienced team, contribute to technical direction, and progressively become the technical owner of the platform. Ideal Profile Essential Experience 5+ years of commercial Ruby on Rails development experience. Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including database design and query optimisation. Experience deploying, maintaining, and supporting applications on AWS, including services such as RDS, EC2, SES, AMI, and Load Balancers. Strong understanding of Git and modern software development practices. Experience with jQuery, HTML5, SCSS, Bootstrap, and Ubuntu. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with distributed teams. Preferred Experience Building and maintaining REST APIs. HighCharts.js. JavaScript, Hotwire, or modern front-end frameworks. Reporting and analytics platforms. Background job processing. Rails application performance tuning. AI integrations and Large Language Model (LLM) APIs. Hospitality or retail software experience. Collaborate closely with product, management, and development teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Take increasing ownership of the platform's technical architecture and future direction. Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and high-performing application features. Support ongoing platform modernisation and expansion of analytics capabilities. Contribute to AI-powered reporting initiatives and third-party integrations. Ensure code quality through best development practices and technical leadership. Optimise application performance, database efficiency, and overall system reliability. Mentor team members and contribute to technical knowledge sharing. Participate in a comprehensive knowledge transfer before assuming ownership of the platform. Identify technical risks, propose improvements, and help drive continuous product enhancement.
