The Sales Manager, Target is a full-ownership role spanning new business development, strategic account leadership, and hands-on operational execution within Voyageur Group’s rapidly growing Target division. This position is built for a motivated, entrepreneurial professional who is equally energized by closing new clients, building long-term growth strategies, and managing the operational detail that keeps those accounts running at a high level.

You will own the complete client relationship for a portfolio of brand partners at Target, from prospecting and onboarding through strategic planning, day-to-day operational execution, and growth. You are both the external face to clients and the internal engine driving their business forward: responsible for everything from item setup, inventory management, and content compliance to senior-level strategy, relationship management, and new business development.

This role reports to the VP Sales, Target Team Lead and is a key contributor to the architecture and culture of Voyageur Group's Target division as we scale.

LOCATION:

This is a hybrid role for candidates who live within about an hour of downtown Minneapolis. You’ll need to be able to come into downtown Minneapolis up to once a week for client meetings, Target meetings, or team time. When working from home, you’ll need reliable internet and a quiet space for client video calls.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Account Strategy & Client Leadership

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of Target vendor clients, owning the relationship at multiple levels and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
  • Develop and execute account-level strategic plans aligned with both Target’s objectives and client growth goals.
  • Lead line reviews, innovation sessions, and key client meetings, leveraging performance insights and operational context.
  • Analyze vendor performance metrics to identify root-cause issues and translate insights into clear recommendations and action plans for clients.
  • Identify opportunities for account expansion, new item introduction, and category growth across client portfolios.
  • Coordinate with Voyageur Group’s Retail Media team on advertising priorities and support execution of client objectives
  • Develop promotional roadmap that achieves sales and financial objectives
  • Own end to end execution of new item launches

Account Operations & Execution

  • Lead forecasting, inventory flow, and reporting in collaboration with Target’s Inventory and Planning teams and vendor partners; translate those inputs into proactive strategies to prevent and resolve out-of-stocks.
  • Own end-to-end item setup and maintenance, ensuring complete and accurate information across all platforms.
  • Effectively manage the sample process, ensuring items are ordered, tracked, labeled, and provided to Target on time.
  • Maintain accurate records for program agreements, pricing, product information, order status, planning issues, and vendor set-ups.
  • Create and manage all timing and action documents for internal and client use, ensuring accuracy and accountability at every stage.
  • Conduct comp shopping and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities, emerging trends, and white space for client portfolios.
  • Assist in the new vendor setup process and hold all vendors accountable for adhering to Target’s standards.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Target buyers, planners, and inventory managers on behalf of client partners.
  • Be an expert in Target's systems and requirements including POL, PCN, Item, LaunchPad, Content Pipeline, ShipIQ, POP, Synergy, and Greenfield.
  • Serve as a vendor advocate, helping clients navigate Target’s processes, requirements, and expectations effectively.
  • Identify and resolve client issues promptly to ensure a consistently high level of satisfaction.

Sales & New Business Development

  • Support identifying, prospecting, and closing new brand partnerships for Voyageur Group's Target division, with a focus on small-to-mid-sized vendors.
  • Contribute to compelling proposals that communicate the value of Voyageur Group's services to prospective clients.
  • Support the Target Team Lead in executing broader sales strategies and contributing to team revenue goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work from downtown Minneapolis about one day a week, with some weeks more or less depending on client and Target needs.
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with or at Target’s corporate offices, or in a senior key account management or sales management role with a major retailer.
  • Demonstrated success in both sales (prospecting, pitching, closing) and strategic account management; experience directing the work of others is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Target systems including POL, PCN, Item, LaunchPad, Content Pipeline, ShipIQ, POP, Synergy, and Greenfield.
  • Experience with inventory management, demand planning, and sales forecasting.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace (Sheets, Slides, Docs).
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and priorities in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • High attention to detail, data integrity, and quality of work.
  • Accountability and trust-building are non-negotiable. Mistakes happen; not owning them cannot.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a growth mindset, excited to build something new while delivering excellent client results.
  • Willingness to travel to clients and company offsites as required (up to 4-6 times/year)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
