The Sales Planning Manager supports the Sales team with the analysis and planning discipline needed to deliver the annual plan. This role works with Sales to manage the sales forecast and track pacing to plan by account, provides ongoing trade promotion analysis, and monitors trade spend so that overspend and underspend are found early and explained. Reporting to the Director of Customer Strategy & Planning, this role partners with Sales, Finance, and Marketing to keep plans accurate and reconciled, and supports the Director on trade investment decisions. This role requires strong analytical skills, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to drive alignment without direct authority.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes, but is not limited to the following):
SALES PLANNING & FORECAST MANAGEMENT
• Run the annual sales planning process on a set calendar: collect inputs, manage timelines, and confirm that plans tie to company volume and revenue objectives.
• Partner with Sales to build and maintain account-level sales plans that align customer strategies, distribution goals, and approved trade investment levels.
• Work with Sales to manage the sales forecast and track pacing to the annual plan by customer and channel; identify which accounts are falling short or overdelivering, and report results to Sales on a regular cadence.
• Partner with Sales to keep the sales pipeline accurate, so that line review status, distribution decisions, and investment commitments are current at all times.
• Reconcile commercial inputs across Sales, Marketing, and Finance so that all systems of record show the same plan; explain variances to plan to leadership, including root causes and recommended corrective actions.
TRADE PROMOTION ANALYSIS & MANAGEMENT
• Provide the Sales team with ongoing trade promotion analysis, including post-event lift, ROI, and efficiency, and use the results to improve future plans.
• Build promotional calendars with Sales that meet the trade investment guardrails set by the Director, including minimum net unit pricing, efficiency, and ROI.
• Partner with RGM to confirm that planned promotions meet guardrails before approval and escalate exceptions to the Director.
• Monitor trade spend against budget by customer and channel on a proactive basis; identify which customers drive overspend or underspend and why, and recommend actions before the variance grows.
• Support Finance with monthly analysis and insights on variances to plan from a trade spend perspective, including which customers are over and which are under.
CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
• Build strong working relationships with Sales, Brand Marketing, Finance, and Analytics counterparts to make sure plans are well-informed and executed.
• Develop clear internal reporting on forecast pacing, trade spend, and retail distribution for Sales and leadership.
• Identify and fix process gaps that slow planning, reduce data accuracy, or create rework; document standard processes and planning tools.
It is the responsibility of all employees to uphold the mission of the Amy’s Food Safety and Quality Policy. This includes following all Food Safety and Sustainability programs and participating in all required training.
