Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and versatile SAP BASIS Administrator based in Chennai to oversee the stability, performance, and security of our core SAP landscape. In addition to core BASIS responsibilities, this hybrid role covers baseline infrastructure networking and cybersecurity tasks, allowing a senior professional to manage minor security patches and connectivity oversight without requiring dedicated specialists.
The ideal candidate thrives in a hybrid work environment, brings deep technical expertise in SAP environments, and possesses a foundational understanding of network architecture and security governance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core SAP BASIS Administration (Primary Focus - ~80%)
· System Lifecycle Management: Lead installations, upgrades, Support Package Stacks (SPS), Enhancement Packages (EHP), and kernel updates across SAP landscapes (e.g., S/4HANA, ECC, BW, Solution Manager).
· Performance & Health Monitoring: Proactively monitor system performance, work processes, lock entries, short dumps, database growth, and background job execution using SAP tools (CCMS, Solution Manager, Focused Run).
· Transport & Landscape Management: Manage the Transport Management System (STMS), handle client copies, system refreshes, and maintain synchronization across Development, Quality Assurance, and Production environments.
· Database Administration: Perform database administration tasks, including backups, restores, tablespace management, and performance tuning for HANA, Oracle, or SQL databases.
· High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Ensure business continuity through robust HA/DR setups, clustering, and routine failover testing.
2. Infrastructure & Networking Oversight (Minimal Focus - ~10%)
· Connectivity Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve basic network-level communication issues affecting SAP (e.g., port availability, RFC connections,
Web Dispatcher configurations, firewalls, and routing between application servers and databases).
· OS & Storage Administration: Manage underlying operating system operations (Linux/Windows) and storage mounting/file-system sizing relevant to SAP data directories.
· Vendor Coordination: Act as the technical point of contact for external infrastructure, cloud, or ISP vendors regarding network bandwidth and server health.
3. Cybersecurity & Compliance (Minimal Focus - ~10%)
· Security Patching: Regularly evaluate and apply SAP Security Patch Days and relevant OSS notes to mitigate vulnerabilities.
· User Access & Authorization: Handle complex user administration, role maintenance (PFCG), profiles, and support segregation of duties (SoD) audits.
· Compliance & Auditing: Support internal and external audits (SOX, GDPR, ISO) by generating security logs, access tracking reports, and ensuring system compliance with corporate security frameworks.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
· Experience: 5 to 7 years of dedicated professional experience in SAP BASIS administration.
· Core SAP Skills:
o Expertise in SAP NetWeaver, SAP S/4HANA administration, and SAP HANA Database management.
o Proficiency with SLD configuration, Solution Manager setup, and software provisioning manager (SWPM).
o Hands-on experience with OS/DB migrations and high-availability setups.
· Complementary Networking Skills:
o Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, Subnets, VPNs, Load Balancers, and SSL/TLS certificates (secure store/pse management).
o Familiarity with SAP Web Dispatcher and reverse proxy configurations.
· Complementary Cybersecurity Skills:
o Solid understanding of SAP authorization concepts, user lifecycle management, and single sign-on (SSO/SAML).
o Experience implementing SAP Security Notes and vulnerability assessment tools.
· Certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate (SAP S/4HANA or SAP NetWeaver) is strongly preferred.
Work Expectations, Shifts & General Rules
· Work Arrangement: This position operating out of our Chennai office locations, requiring physical presence as per company hybrid policies.
· Shift Flexibility: The role requires flexibility to work in rotational shifts (including morning, evening, and periodic on-call support for critical maintenance windows, patching, or emergency incident management).
· General Rules & Compliance:
o Adherence to company data security policies, confidentiality agreements, and IT governance standards.
o Timely logging and tracking of all tasks, changes, and incidents using enterprise ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira).
o Participation in routine team meetings, change advisory board (CAB) reviews, and compliance audits.
