SAP S/4HANA Finance SME – Contract

Location: Cambridge, UK (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)

Contract: 12 Months (Potential Extension)

Day Rate: Negotiable, Depending on Experience

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced SAP S/4HANA Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join a leading organisation within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector on an initial 12-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior SAP Finance professional to take ownership of key finance processes within an established SAP S/4HANA environment, working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to support day-to-day operations, deliver enhancements and drive continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the Finance function, ensuring SAP solutions remain aligned with business requirements and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary SAP Finance SME, providing functional expertise across the SAP S/4HANA landscape.
• Partner with Finance stakeholders to understand business requirements, identify challenges and recommend effective SAP solutions.
• Provide ongoing functional support, troubleshooting incidents and resolving issues across SAP Finance modules.
• Manage change requests, system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Collaborate with technical teams, business analysts and wider stakeholders to deliver system improvements.
• Support financial reporting, controlling, product costing and treasury-related processes.
• Ensure SAP Finance processes align with relevant business controls, compliance requirements and industry regulations.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 15+ years of SAP Finance experience, including significant hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA.
• Strong functional expertise across SAP FI/CO, including:
• General Ledger (GL)
• Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Asset Accounting (AA)
• Controlling (CO)
• Profitability Analysis (CO-PA)
• Product Costing
• Treasury and Cash Management
• Financial Close processes
• Previous experience working within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
• Proven experience supporting live SAP environments, including incident management, business requirements gathering and system enhancements.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end finance processes and their integration within SAP S/4HANA.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and business partnering skills.
• Ability to operate independently as a senior functional SME within a complex enterprise environment.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working within GxP-regulated environments.
• Previous experience supporting SAP Finance within pharmaceutical manufacturing or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience delivering process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Previous experience acting as the bridge between Finance stakeholders and SAP technical teams.

Contract Details

• Initial 12-month contract with potential for extension.
• Competitive, negotiable day rate depending on experience.
• Outside IR35.
• Hybrid working, with 2–3 days per week onsite in Cambridge.
• November start date, with flexibility for candidates serving notice periods of up to four weeks.
