Role Overview

NETGEAR is looking for a Windows Desktop Agent Developer to help build our Windows desktop client for a next-generation security platform. In this role, you will design and build secure, performant, and user-friendly Windows applications that enable access to critical cybersecurity features, including Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), VPN, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), and other advanced network security capabilities.

As a Windows Desktop Application Developer, you will work closely with backend, security, and product teams to deliver a seamless desktop experience integrated with NETGEAR’s security services. You will take ownership of features end to end and help ensure our application meets high standards for security, usability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure and high-performance desktop applications for Windows as part of NETGEAR’s security platform.

  • Implement networking features such as VPN connectivity, secure tunneling, and ZTNA access using native Windows capabilities and VPN protocols like IPSec or WireGuard.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including backend engineers, product managers, UX/UI designers, and QA to define and implement desktop features.

  • Ensure applications follow security best practices, protect user data, and comply with Windows guidelines for application signing, sandboxing, and secure installation.

  • Write clean, modular, and testable code; write and maintain unit and integration tests using .NET test frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit; and contribute to automated testing and CI/CD pipelines for the desktop client.

  • Participate in code reviews, support less experienced developers, and uphold strong engineering standards.

  • Stay current with trends in Windows desktop application development, networking, and endpoint cybersecurity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 3–6 years of professional experience in Windows desktop application development (C#, .NET, Win32, WPF).

  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting.

  • Hands-on experience with Windows networking APIs and system-level frameworks, such as Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) or WinINet.

  • Experience integrating certificate-based authentication, Windows Hello / biometrics, or OS-level security APIs.

  • Familiarity with VPN protocols such as WireGuard or IPSec, and experience implementing secure tunnels or endpoint network clients.

  • Experience with Windows application packaging, code signing, and deployment tools (e.g., WiX Toolset, MSI, MSIX, ClickOnce) for enterprise and public distribution.

  • Strong understanding of desktop security practices, including secure storage, encryption, sandboxing, Windows Credential Manager / DPAPI integration, and user authentication.

  • Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests with .NET test frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit.

  • Experience working with backend APIs and service-based architectures.

  • Proficient in debugging, profiling, and performance optimization of Windows desktop applications.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in agile and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications (optional):

  • Familiarity with cross-platform desktop frameworks such as Electron, Qt, or Flutter Desktop.

  • Experience with enterprise deployment and endpoint management solutions such as Microsoft Intune.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for desktop applications (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity), including crash reporting and telemetry via platforms such as Sentry or App Center.
