SBA Underwriter

United Federal Credit Union is looking for an experienced SBA Underwriter to help evaluate SBA lending opportunities and support sound credit decision-making. In this role, you will analyze loan requests, assess financial risk, ensure compliance with SBA requirements, and work closely with lending partners to deliver timely credit recommendations.

What You'll Do

As an SBA Underwriter, you'll be responsible for evaluating SBA loan requests and providing sound credit recommendations that align with UFCU lending standards and SBA program requirements.

In this role, you will:

• Analyze SBA loan applications and determine creditworthiness, repayment capacity, and SBA eligibility.
• Review financial statements, tax returns, and supporting documentation to assess lending opportunities and risks.
• Build and evaluate cash flow models to support informed credit decisions.
• Ensure loan requests comply with both SBA requirements and UFCU credit policies.
• Review third-party due diligence reports, including appraisals, business valuations, environmental reviews, and other supporting analyses.
• Partner closely with SBA Business Development Officers and lending colleagues throughout the underwriting process.
• Clearly communicate credit decisions and prepare approval modifications when needed.
• Maintain a strong understanding of SBA programs, regulations, and underwriting best practices.
• Contribute to process enhancements, policy improvements, and special projects that support the growth of the SBA program.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of two years of SBA underwriting experience.
• Strong financial analysis, credit underwriting, and cash flow modeling skills.
• Experience analyzing business financial statements and tax returns.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
