Position summary : Senior Accountant Hansa Biopharma, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team in New York City. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in the accounting and financial reporting activities of a publicly traded biotechnology company (Nasdaq Stockholm). The position will be responsible for payroll accounting, general ledger management, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and assisting with reporting internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards. Experience with both GAAP and IFRS would also be beneficial. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, public company experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving biotechnology environment. This role will be based at our NYC (Manhattan) office when opened and will require the individual to be at a daily commuting distance from NYC on a hybrid schedule. Key tasks and responsibilities This job description outlines key responsibilities but does not include all potential tasks or duties. General Accounting & Financial Close Prepare and review monthly journal entries and supporting schedules Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis Assist with preparation of monthly management reporting packages and financial analyses Support implementation and enhancement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Payroll & Employee Compensation Manage and oversee payroll accounting processes, including multi-state payroll reconciliations and related journal entries Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts, including accrued compensation, payroll taxes, benefits, and employee deductions Coordinate with Human Resources and external payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing Support accounting for employee benefit plans, equity compensation programs, and bonus accruals Reporting & Public Company Compliance Assist with preparation of regulatory filing and quarterly reports Prepare supporting schedules and disclosures required for reporting Support earnings release preparation and quarterly reporting processes Assist with XBRL, disclosure controls, and compliance with public company reporting requirements Participate in the annual audit and quarterly review processes with external auditors Technical Accounting & Compliance Ensure compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements Assist with accounting for stock-based compensation, leases, debt instruments, and other complex accounting matters Support implementation and documentation of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX compliance, if applicable) Research and document accounting positions for new transactions and business initiatives Biotechnology Industry Support Assist with accounting for clinical trial accruals, research and development expenses, manufacturing activities, and commercialization efforts Coordination with 3PLs Support revenue recognition processes and gross-to-net calculations, as applicable Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Clinical, Regulatory, Legal, Human Resources, and Commercial Operations Special Projects Participate in system implementations and process improvement initiatives Support acquisitions, licensing transactions, financing activities, and other strategic initiatives Assist in the transition and scaling of finance operations as the company grows Education and experience requirements Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Between 4 - 7 years of progressive accounting experience Public accounting experience and/or public company accounting experience Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and financial reporting requirements Experience with payroll accounting and payroll reconciliations Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with ERP systems (MS Dynamics 365) and financial reporting tools (FloQast) Preferred CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industry experience Experience supporting reporting and public company compliance Familiarity with stock-based compensation accounting Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls Experience working in a fast-growing or pre-commercial biotechnology company Big Four public accounting experience About you Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Strong sense of ownership and accountability Collaborative team player with a proactive mindset Ability to work independently in a dynamic and evolving environment Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional integrity Our culture and values Working at Hansa is more than a job for us, and our culture is characterised by pride — pride in what we do, in our company, and in what we have achieved and will accomplish for patients around the world. Estimated salary range for this role is $110,000 - $135,000 annually. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications, skills and experience of the individual applicant, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the geographic location of the individual. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
