Senior Accountant
AstoncarterAs a Senior Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements. You will perform detailed reconciliations, support month-end and quarter-end close activities, and assist with tax-related compliance filings. Responsibilities Perform detailed balance sheet, bank, and general ledger account reconciliations. Review existing reconciliations for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate supporting documentation. Investigate reconciling items and discrepancies down to the transaction level. Trace variances through bank activity, subledgers, journal entries, payment records, and other supporting documentation. Build or improve reconciliation schedules, templates, and supporting workpapers. Prepare and post journal entries with accurate and complete documentation. Support month-end and quarter-end close activities. Assist with the cleanup of accounts that have not been reconciled correctly or consistently. Help bring account reconciliation activity current and establish a dependable ongoing cadence. Support banking-related accounting following a recent bank transition. Reconcile activity across multiple bank accounts while funds, payments, and other transactions transition to the new banking structure. Review payment and remittance information to identify transactions that may have been directed to previous bank accounts. Assist with tax return preparation, sales tax reconciliations, and related compliance filings. Support multi-state sales tax activity and the reconciliation of tax liability accounts. Perform recurring accounting activities such as invoicing, commission calculations, and other transactional processes. Review financial information for unusual activity, unsupported balances, or control concerns. Identify recurring reconciliation issues, process breakdowns, and opportunities to strengthen accounting procedures. Recommend practical solutions to improve accuracy, consistency, and financial controls. Clearly document reconciliation procedures, findings, and outstanding items for future handoff. Partner with accounting leadership and other members of the finance team on special projects and daily workload priorities. Essential Skills At least five years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including seven or more years in Senior-level, general ledger, or reconciliation-focused positions. Demonstrated experience completing complex balance sheet and bank reconciliations. Strong journal entry preparation and general ledger accounting experience. Hands-on month-end close experience. Ability to investigate discrepancies and determine the underlying cause. Strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply US GAAP. Experience working with ERP or comprehensive financial management systems. Ability to work independently and prioritize competing assignments. Strong attention to detail and a high level of accountability. Strong Excel skills, including experience using spreadsheets for reconciliations, data analysis, lookups, pivot tables, and supporting schedules. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. NetSuite experience, particularly supporting or working through a NetSuite implementation. Experience with Oracle, SAP, or another large ERP platform. Multi-state sales tax reporting or tax compliance experience. Exposure to Canadian GST, HST, or PST. CPA designation or active progress toward obtaining a CPA. Experience supporting a multi-entity, marketplace, affiliate, commission-based, or similarly complex business model. Previous contract or consulting experience in which the individual was expected to ramp up quickly. Work Environment The position offers a full-time schedule with a hybrid work arrangement after training. You will work three days onsite and two days remote per week, with working hours generally scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Appleton, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $45.67/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
