We are looking for a Senior Accountant to manage accounting operations, financial reporting, and tax compliance for the company's China entities. This role will oversee month-end closing, multi-currency reporting, import/export tax matters, and intercompany reconciliations while supporting financial consolidation and coordination with the Australian group.
The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting and tax expertise, mandatory Big 4 experience, and the ability to work independently while communicating financial matters effectively with the CFO and international stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Maintain the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and bank and intercompany reconciliations for China entities.
- Manage month-end closing, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly management reports for group consolidation in AUD, including the treatment of RMB, AUD, and USD transactions.
- Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts, and support budgeting and variance analysis.
Tax Compliance & Import/Export
- Manage China tax and statutory compliance, including VAT, fapiao, corporate income tax, and annual filings.
- Handle import/export tax matters, including customs duties, import VAT, export VAT refunds, customs documentation, and shipment-to-ledger reconciliations.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, external tax advisers, and relevant authorities as needed.
- Reconcile intercompany balances and support transfer pricing matters with Australian group entities.
Controls, Audit & Process Improvement
- Process and review payments, expense claims, and supplier invoices in accordance with approval procedures and internal controls.
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules and documentation for auditors and tax advisers.
- Improve accounting processes, controls, and documentation, and support the transition to group accounting and payment systems.
- Respond to finance queries from the group team, operations, and management, escalating issues when necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA, ACCA, CMA, or an equivalent professional qualification, completed or in progress.
- Big 4 experience (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG) in audit, accounting, or tax is mandatory, followed by 5+ years of total experience, including at least 2 years at senior or lead level.
- Strong knowledge of China's tax regulations, including VAT, fapiao, corporate income tax, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and Chinese GAAP.
- Practical knowledge of import/export tax and customs compliance, including import VAT, customs duties, tariff classification, export VAT refunds and rebates, customs declarations, and cross-border payments.
- Experience in month-end closing, reconciliations, and reporting for multi-entity or multi-currency groups.
- Proficiency in Excel and cloud accounting systems such as Xero, Wiise, NetSuite, Kingdee, or similar platforms.
- Good written and spoken English, with the ability to discuss financial figures and issues with the CFO and Australian team.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation, integrity, and willingness to learn and apply AI tools in daily work.
