About Campus

Campus is on a mission to accelerate the talent of tomorrow and reimagine what college can (and should) be. The problem is clear: college costs have skyrocketed, but outcomes haven’t. Traditional college hasn’t kept up with the aspirations of today’s students—and they can’t afford to wait.

At Campus, we’ve built a two-year, accredited college where students learn from top professors at universities like Princeton, Stanford, and Howard, in live, online classes. Our students graduate with in-demand business and AI skills—ready to launch their careers or transfer to top four-year universities. Our unique approach is grounded in a pioneering technology platform and a heavily-researched student success model that offers students dedicated advisors and on-demand tutoring and coaching. We were also named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2024.

We’re backed by an exceptional investor team that believes deeply in our vision for the future of education, including General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Bloomberg Beta, 8VC, Rethink Education, Sam Altman, Jason Citron, Shaquille O’Neal, and others.

The world has changed. Higher ed needs to catch up, and we’re leading the way - come join us!

About the team

The Finance & Accounting team safeguards Campus’s financial accuracy and integrity as the company grows. We partner across the business to deliver reliable reporting, manage the complexity of tuition and student financing, and build controls and systems that support a regulated education institution. We value accountability, collaboration, and a deep sense of responsibility to the students we serve.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to help build and maintain the financial backbone that powers Campus’s growth. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with ownership of key month-end close activities, account reconciliations, revenue accounting, and actuals analysis. You will also support daily accounting operations, audits, tax-related work, and education-related compliance reporting.

You will work closely with our Finance leadership, including the Controller, the FP&A team, and cross-functional partners to keep our numbers accurate, our work well documented, and our processes scalable. As Campus grows, you will have opportunities to take on more ownership and expand your accounting experience.

Your immediate priorities are to learn Campus’s financial systems, chart of accounts, core processes, and financial model; take ownership of assigned close tasks and day-to-day accounting activities; and support the transition from QuickBooks to Campfire. You will learn how student activity flows through the numbers and help the team deliver a reliable monthly close in five business days or less.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Own assigned month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and variance analysis, with complete supporting documentation and timely resolution of reconciling items.

  • Maintain accurate accounting for tuition, fees, scholarships and discounts, refunds, student receivables, deferred revenue, and other revenue streams in accordance with US GAAP and Campus’s accounting policies.

  • Investigate revenue and expense variances, explain the underlying activity, and prepare schedules used in financial statements, management reporting, and FP&A analysis.

  • Support daily accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, employee expenses, and the general ledger; review and process vendor invoices, reimbursements, and corporate card transactions for accurate coding, approvals, and policy compliance.

  • Partner with Student Accounts and Financial Aid to reconcile student-account activity, financial aid receipts, refunds, and returns to accounting records; investigate discrepancies and escalate issues promptly.

  • Support annual audits, tax-related work, Department of Education reporting, and other compliance workstreams by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding promptly to requests from Finance leadership and external advisors.

  • Support the QuickBooks-to-Campfire migration through data cleanup, account mapping, reconciliation of converted balances, testing, and documentation of new workflows.

  • Work across accounting and operational systems, including Campfire, Ramp, Rippling, Carta, and student and payment tools, to maintain reliable data and well-supported reconciliations.

  • Partner with Student Accounts, Financial Aid, IT, Student Technology Support, and other teams to resolve coding questions, improve workflows, and ensure financial data is accurate and complete.

  • Document accounting procedures and controls, identify opportunities to reduce manual work and errors, and propose practical process improvements as Campus scales.

  • Grow your ownership over time by learning how the business operates, asking thoughtful questions, seeking feedback, and following through on commitments.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You bring 2 - 4 years of hands-on experience in public accounting and/or corporate accounting, with a strong foundation in US GAAP and core financial accounting.

  • You are comfortable preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, investigating discrepancies, and meeting close deadlines with accurate, well-documented work.

  • You have intermediate Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups such as VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, and formulas used to reconcile and analyze financial data.

  • You are detail-oriented and organized, you prioritize effectively under deadlines, and flag issues early with proposed solutions.

  • You communicate clearly with non-finance partners, build collaborative relationships, and take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of your work.

  • You are curious about how the business works, open to feedback, and motivated to improve processes and take on new responsibilities in a growing, mission-driven company.

Preferred qualifications include public accounting experience; a CPA license or progress toward the CPA; familiarity with revenue recognition and deferred revenue; and experience with an accounting or ERP system and AP or expense management tools. Campfire or ERP migration experience is a plus.

What you’ll get:

  • A compensation package that includes a base salary of $120,000 - $140,000 plus an equity grant.

    • Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 401(k) match and fertility benefits via Carrot.

  • Flexible Time Away and paid holidays.

  • A hybrid work schedule: Monday and Friday remote; Tuesday through Thursday in our New York City office.

  • In-office lunches, a dog-friendly New York office, and team social events.

  • The opportunity to help bring affordable, outcomes-focused higher education to more students.

Where we’re located: Tribeca, NY
