Senior Accountant – Canadian Audit & Review Engagements
About Remote Accounting 24x7
Remote Accounting 24x7 is a venture of Lets Chat 24x7 IT Services Pvt. Ltd., providing remote accounting, bookkeeping, tax, and assurance support to CPA firms across Canada. Our Canadian operations are based in Edmonton, Alberta, where we support public accounting firms with accounting, taxation, financial reporting, audit, review, and advisory services.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant with hands-on experience in Canadian Review and/or Audit Engagements to support Canadian CPA firm clients.
The ideal candidate understands the purpose and reasoning behind audit and review procedures, rather than simply completing checklists. The candidate should be able to identify accounting and assurance issues, exercise professional skepticism, prepare strong working papers, and complete engagements with a reasonable level of independence.
Key Responsibilities
Audit & Review Engagements
- Complete Review Engagements (CSRE 2400) from planning through completion, including financial statement preparation and working papers.
- Perform small and micro Audit Engagements from start to finish where applicable.
- Assist with or independently complete larger and more complex Audit and Review Engagements based on experience.
- Understand the why behind audit and review procedures and apply professional judgment rather than relying solely on checklists.
- Perform analytical procedures, substantive procedures, inquiries, and other engagement procedures as required.
- Identify unusual transactions, accounting issues, inconsistencies, and potential assurance risks.
- Apply professional skepticism when evaluating financial information and management explanations.
- Prepare clear, complete, and well-organized working papers that require minimal review comments.
- Complete and maintain CaseWare/Jazzit files and PEG checklists.
- Identify issues requiring escalation and communicate them clearly to the engagement team.
- Assist with financial statement preparation in accordance with applicable Canadian accounting standards.
- Support engagement planning, risk assessment, completion procedures, and documentation.
- Communicate with clients to obtain information, resolve queries, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for Canadian private companies and not-for-profit organizations.
- Apply relevant requirements under ASPE and ASNPO.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances or unusual balances.
- Review general ledger accounts, adjusting entries, supporting documentation, and financial information.
- Identify accounting treatment issues and discuss appropriate solutions with the engagement team.
- Maintain accurate and well-documented engagement files.
Technical Knowledge
Candidates should have a working knowledge of:
- Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)
- Review Engagement Standards – CSRE 2400
- ASPE – Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises
- ASNPO – Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations
- Financial statement preparation
- Internal controls and risk assessment concepts
- Audit and review procedures
- Professional skepticism and accounting judgment
Software Experience

Experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) or other Canadian accounting software is an added advantage.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in Canadian public accounting.
- Hands-on experience with Canadian Review Engagements is required.
- Candidates with both Audit and Review Engagement experience will be preferred.
- Experience completing small/micro Audit or Review Engagements independently is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of CSRE 2400 and Canadian assurance practices.
- Working knowledge of CAS, ASPE, and/or ASNPO.
- Experience preparing financial statements and engagement working papers.
- Strong CaseWare/Jazzit experience is preferred.
- Experience with PEG checklists is preferred.
- Ability to identify accounting and assurance issues rather than simply following standard checklists.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of internal controls and risk assessment concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation standards.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client engagements.

- Complete smaller/micro engagements from start to finish with reasonable independence.
- Handle typical-sized Review or Audit Engagements with increasing independence based on experience.
- Minimize review comments through accurate and complete documentation.
- Communicate issues clearly to the Senior, Manager, or Partner when escalation is required.
Engagement Experience
Minimum acceptable profile:
Candidates with solid experience in Canadian Review Engagements, including CSRE 2400, financial statement preparation, working papers, and CaseWare/Jazzit.
Preferred profile:
Candidates with experience in both Canadian Audit and Review Engagements, particularly those who can independently manage smaller engagements and contribute effectively to larger engagements.
Ideal profile:
A Senior Accountant who can independently complete typical-sized Audit and Review Engagements, identify potential accounting and assurance issues, apply professional skepticism, and consistently produce high-quality working papers requiring minimal review.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA/CA designation or actively pursuing CPA.
- Experience working directly with Canadian CPA firms.
- Experience with both Audit and Review Engagements.
- Strong CaseWare/Jazzit experience.
- Experience with PEG checklists.
- Experience with ASPE and ASNPO engagements.
- Experience with not-for-profit organizations is an advantage.
- Experience independently managing small/micro engagements.
- Ability to review work and identify issues with minimal supervision.
