Senior Accountant - Malta & UK

About the Role

The Senior Accountant owns wamo’s accounting hands-on across both entities, from daily bookkeeping through month-end and year-end close to statutory and management reporting. You ensure the organization has accurate, timely and reliable financial data to meet regulatory requirements, maintain financial health and drive sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and consolidated financial reports for the CFO and senior leadership under IFRS and local GAAP.

• Prepare statutory financial statements under Malta GAAP

• Analyse financial data and trends to give management actionable insights and performance metrics.

• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting by summarising key financial data.

Close, General Ledger & Reconciliations

• Lead the month-end and year-end close hands-on, including accruals, prepayments and complex adjustments.

• Perform and review daily bookkeeping, journal entries and postings across both entities.

• Reconcile balance sheet, bank and intercompany accounts, and resolve discrepancies with internal teams.

Operational Finance

• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including processing, monitoring and reviewing invoices, expenses and transactions.

• Maintain complete, well-organised and audit-ready accounting records.

Tax, Compliance & Audit

• Prepare and submit VAT returns, tax filings and statutory reporting.

• Ensure strict adherence to accounting standards, internal controls and regulatory requirements.

• Act as the main point of contact for external parties and auditors. This includes preparing documentation and responding to queries while keeping ownership in-house throughout.

Process Improvement

• Identify gaps in financial workflows and implement improvements that strengthen controls, increase efficiency and reduce operational friction.

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on, in-house accounting experience. You have personally owned the full accounting cycle yourself, rather than managing others who did it.

• Solid knowledge of IFRS; a Big 4 background is a plus.

• Strong knowledge of VAT and statutory reporting.

• Experience with accounting systems such as Netvisor, Xero or similar.

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent.

• Fluent in English; Maltese strongly preferred.
