Role: Senior Fraud Advisor
Grade: Service NSW Grade 9/10 salary package starts from $134,626 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
Employment type: Full-time, ongoing
Location: Sydney (Haymarket), Sydney (Parramatta), Gosford (other locations may be considered). Hybrid working.

About the team
You will be part of a team of motivated fraud and corruption risk professionals that supports Service NSW to understand and control its fraud and corruption risk landscape. Senior Fraud Advisors are responsible for delivering fraud and corruption advice and assessments across Service NSW divisions, products and projects.

The Fraud Advisory team engages and works with all parts of Service NSW, our partner agencies and across multiple customer channels. We provide fraud and corruption subject matter expertise and advice to support teams across Service NSW to understand their fraud and corruption control obligations and manage risks effectively, in particular in relation to financial and identity fraud.

We develop and implement fraud and corruption prevention frameworks, provide practical advice and fraud risk assessments, recommend effective controls and support reporting through proactive reviews, control assurance testing, involvement in project initiatives and data-informed decision-making.

Your day-to-day
As a Senior Fraud Advisor, you will contribute to strategic priorities and transformation initiatives that strengthen fraud and corruption risk awareness, maturity, capability and culture across the agency. you will work independently and collaboratively with teams across Service NSW and its customer channels to deliver high-quality fraud and corruption SME advice that meets organisational and government requirements in an agile, fast-paced environment.

In this role you will be expected to use and enhance existing fraud and corruption frameworks, standards, tools, templates, and processes to achieve improved outcomes. You will contribute to driving strategic priorities and transformation across the agency to improve fraud and corruption awareness, maturity, capability, and cultural uplift.

Senior Fraud Advisors also provide detailed fraud and corruption advice, and lead activities such as proactive fraud and corruption risk assessments, fraud advice by-design for new initiatives, and control assurance testing.

You will support and coach fraud advisors and co-develop and deliver fraud and corruption training and awareness activities. You also support the Manager of Fraud Advisory and the Director to meet reporting requirements and brief the Service NSW Executive.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience in fraud and corruption risk and control, or equivalent experience in compliance, regulatory, legal, information governance or related risk environments that would translate well to role.
  • Experience providing fraud and corruption or risk subject matter advice, with a working understanding of fraud and corruption risks, controls and risk management principles.
  • Expertise and practical experience in identity-related fraud is also highly desirable.
  • A positive and proactive approach, with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively in an agile, fast paced and collaborative environment.
  • The ability to communicate complex information clearly and in plain English through written reports, presentations and stakeholder discussions.
  • The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality work.
  • The ability to solve complex problems and influence stakeholders by recommending proportionate fraud controls that protect public funding, support access for intended recipients and enable positive customer and business outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and collaborative skills, including the ability to gather information from different business areas and develop insights and recommendations that inform decision-making.
  • An understanding of relevant legal, technological, regulatory and international developments relating to financial and identity fraud and corruption is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite and experience using Miro or similar visual collaboration and presentation tools to support process mapping, analysis and stakeholder engagement are desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or professional credentials in areas such as fraud examination, risk management, law or governance are desirable.

Essential criteria

Appointment and ongoing assignment are subject to satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment and ongoing probity screening, in accordance with relevant legislation and related policies. You will also need to undertake a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
