About the Role Our client is an AI-powered maternal health company that is revolutionizing care by connecting patients with an integrated network of providers, including OB-GYNs, lactation consultants, and doulas. Their advanced AI tools, telehealth platform, and provider collaboration streamline care delivery, ensuring mothers receive high-quality, personalized care while connecting them to resources and actively addressing healthcare disparities. You'll build the AI that powers their companion, turning LLMs and agents into a warm, reliable, safe product experience moms actually trust. This is hands-on and close to the user: you'll build AI features, watch how real moms use them, and iterate relentlessly, while also pitching in on regular full-stack work across the codebase. This role is for someone with a startup mentality, someone who does whatever it takes to exceed the roadmap, not just meet it. It's fast paced and high ownership. The right person doesn't just contribute to the mission, they become part of it, treating the company's goals as their own and pushing past what's asked. Responsibilities Build LLM-powered features and agents that make the companion genuinely helpful (prompting, RAG, tool use, orchestration) Design guardrails and escalation so the product stays safe, holds the non-medical line, and hands off to humans when needed Build evals that measure conversation quality, tone, and safety, not just correctness Ship AI features end to end in our Angular / NestJS / Postgres stack, from the model layer to the user-facing experience Iterate quickly on real usage, and own AI features from prototype to production Handle sensitive health data responsibly (HIPAA aware) Requirements Required of every role: our core stack (hands-on experience with Angular, NestJS, and Postgres, or the proven ability to ramp into them quickly). Whatever your specialty, you'll do regular full-stack work in this stack, not only your focus area Hands-on experience building LLM applications (agents, RAG, prompt/context engineering, APIs) Ability to ship AI features end to end and contribute to general full-stack work A product mindset and bias to ship, you care how real users experience the AI Instinct for AI safety, reliability, and evaluation Bonus: conversational/voice AI, fine-tuning and evals, healthcare or safety-critical AI, MCP How You Operate You have a startup mentality, you'll do whatever it takes to exceed the roadmap, not just hit it You thrive in high pace, high ambiguity environments and don't need structure handed to you, you build it as you go You're bought into the mission, the company's goals are your goals, not a checklist You have a bias to ship, you'd rather learn from a real user than polish in a vacuum You move fluidly across the stack without waiting to be told which piece matters more You care about the people on the other end of the product and bring that care into every decision Additional Information: Work Hours: Remote, with availability for PST collaboration Contract Type: Independent Contractor We Offer: Competitive Compensation in USD Paid Time Off 100% remote
