ABOUT
Inlecom Innovation designs and develops cutting-edge digital transformation solutions, combining research excellence with real-world impact. We work alongside leading industrial organisations and research institutions across Europe to deliver AI-driven technologies within EU-funded innovation projects. Our Athens R&D team builds and deploys applied AI solutions across transport and logistics, critical infrastructure, environmental monitoring, cultural heritage, and chemical processes and materials, contributing to the next generation of trustworthy, interoperable intelligent systems.
ROLE
We are looking for a Senior AI Research Engineer to join our R&D team in Athens (Kifissia), working in a hybrid on-site/remote model. You will take technical ownership of AI components, from concept to deployment with partners across Europe and you will contribute your expertise to shaping new research and innovation proposals (Horizon Europe, cascade funding calls, tenders). This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build applied AI systems that reach real users, while staying close to the research frontier in LLMs, agentic AI and predictive modelling.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the technical design and implementation of AI/ML components in EU-funded research projects, driving them from concept through prototyping, integration and deployment.
- Lead work packages and technical tasks within distributed, multidisciplinary consortia, coordinating with technical partners and end-users across Europe.
- Build prototypes and production-ready solutions using state-of-the-art AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, agentic AI, predictive and optimisation models).
- Work closely with partners and end-users to translate their requirements and constraints into effective, deployable solutions.
- Author high-quality technical outputs (scientific deliverables, research publications and new project proposals) aligned with EU priorities on trustworthy AI, openness, interoperability and fairness.
- Take initiative and identify pragmatic, resourceful paths to project goals and actively shape the technical direction of the team’s work.
QUALIFICATIONS
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience delivering AI/ML or data science applications.
- Strong, hands-on experience with current AI technologies, in particular LLMs, including locally deployed open-source models, RAG and agentic AI systems.
- Solid grounding in predictive modelling, classification and clustering, recommendation systems and optimisation algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python and the modern ML stack: PyTorch or TensorFlow, scikit-learn, NumPy, Pandas.
- Experience in the technical implementation of EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, cascade funding) and in contributing to research proposals.
- Ability to efficiently search, read and synthesise AI scientific literature into design decisions.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills; excellent written and spoken English.
- Self-directed, comfortable working independently within distributed teams and taking ownership of objectives and deadlines.
NICE TO HAVE
- Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), surrogate modelling or Bayesian optimisation.
- Computer vision (YOLO, CNNs), including satellite or UAV imagery.
- Model compression and lightweight architectures for edge AI deployment.
- Explainable and trustworthy AI methods, and familiarity with the EU AI Act.
- Track record of peer-reviewed publications or open-source contributions in AI/ML.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive compensation and private health insurance.
- Hybrid working model, based at our Kifissia office.
- A senior, hands-on role with real technical ownership and opportunities for patents development.
- Collaboration with leading European research institutions and industry partners, with travel to project meetings across Europe.
- A friendly, international R&D team and support for publishing and conference participation.
