The role

The Senior Analyst will deliver actionable client, market, sector and competitive intelligence to support business development, client strategy and commercial decision-making across Clifford Chance.

The role will combine research, data analysis and commercial judgement to identify relevant opportunities, risks, market trends and competitive developments, including those relating to the firm’s global strategic clients, priority sectors and broader strategic objectives.

Working with lawyers, business professionals and CIBI colleagues globally, the role will help translate information into concise, relevant and decision-oriented intelligence.

The role will also use AI and other technology-enabled approaches appropriately to improve efficiency, deepen analysis and enhance the quality, accessibility and visual presentation of intelligence outputs.

Who you will work with

As part of the CIBI team, you will work with local and international colleagues and stakeholders across the Clifford Chance network.

What you will be responsible for

You will be responsible for delivering business insights on specific business development opportunities and initiatives, by conducting research on existing and prospective clients, competitors and sector/market/product opportunities, client development planning, and providing research-based strategic insights to partners on winning new business and developing existing clients. The opportunities are typically multi-jurisdictional meaning close collaboration is necessary with offices throughout the network.

The role will also require the successful candidate to organise and co-ordinate with global teams, supporting client opportunities, as well as business planning and reporting.

What you will do

  • Deliver actionable client, company, sector, market, transaction and competitive intelligence to support business development, client strategy and commercial decision-making.
  • Analyse internal and external information to identify market trends and competitive developments relevant to the firm’s strategic priorities, global strategic clients and priority sectors.
  • Develop concise insights driven outputs, including client and company briefings, market and sector assessments, competitive intelligence, opportunity analyses and presentations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to clarify the underlying business need, challenge or decision to be supported and ensure that the scope and format of the analysis are appropriate for its intended purpose and audience.
  • Use AI, automation and other technology-enabled approaches appropriately to improve research output.
  • Present information through clear narratives, charts and other appropriate visual formats that make findings and implications easy to understand.
  • Apply appropriate research, analytical and quality-control methodologies, ensuring that insights are evidence-based, sources are reliable and outputs meet the firm’s quality standards.
  • Collaborate with CIBI colleagues and other teams across the firm to obtain market-specific expertise, validate findings, share knowledge and contribute to multi-jurisdictional assignments.
  • Contribute to the continued development of CIBI’s intelligence capabilities by identifying improvements to research methods, analytical frameworks, technology use, knowledge resources and working practices.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge resources and intelligence repositories so that validated information and learning can be reused effectively across the team.
  • Manage multiple assignments effectively, communicate progress and potential constraints proactively and deliver work in line with agreed priorities, timelines and quality expectations.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, information security and compliance with firm policies and information-governance requirements.

Your experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, commerce, management, data analytics or another relevant discipline.
  • Approximately two years of relevant experience in business intelligence, market or competitive intelligence, consulting research, commercial analysis, financial research, knowledge services or a comparable professional environment.
  • Exposure to company research, industry analysis, market intelligence or transaction-related research assignments.
  • Experience of supporting business development, client strategy, market assessment, competitor analysis, strategic planning or other commercially focused initiatives is desirable.
  • Experience of producing concise briefings, presentations or analytical outputs for senior or time-constrained stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with business and financial information sources such as Capital IQ, Mergermarket, Bloomberg, Nexis or comparable platforms is preferred.
  • Experience of using AI-enabled tools, analytical technologies or data-visualisation techniques to support research and analysis is desirable.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to identify relevant information from multiple sources and synthesise findings effectively.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic understanding of business strategy frameworks such as SWOT, PESTLE and Porter's Five Forces.
  • Customer-focused approach with a service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively within global and cross-functional teams.
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • High standards of professionalism, confidentiality and integrity.
