The Role:
Morningstar DBRS is seeking a Senior Analyst to join its Private Corporate Credit team. This role combines financial data analytics, leveraged finance research, and credit analysis, with an emphasis on sourcing, analyzing, and transforming complex financial and economic data into meaningful insights for investment professionals.
Working closely with senior analysts and management, you will contribute to the development of high-quality leveraged finance research through data analysis, quantitative tools, and financial modeling. You will also gain exposure to assessing the creditworthiness of small to medium-sized, highly leveraged companies, with opportunities to take on greater credit analysis and ratings responsibilities over time.
What you'll be doing:
- Source, validate, organize, and analyze financial and economic data across multiple platforms to support leveraged finance research and credit analysis.
- Design, develop, and maintain data structures and analytical tools using Excel, Python, SQL, and other platforms to support financial research, quantitative analysis, and ongoing credit surveillance.
- Develop informative charts, tables, and data visualizations that contribute to timely, high-quality leveraged finance research and credit publications.
- Apply quantitative methods, including time-series and cross-sectional data analysis, to identify trends and generate insights across financial markets and leveraged finance.
- Support the credit analysis and ongoing surveillance of a portfolio of small to medium-sized, highly leveraged companies, including reviewing financial statements and assessing credit fundamentals.
- Assist in preparing rating committee materials, developing credit recommendations, and participating in rating committee discussions.
- Build and maintain relationships with market participants, including lenders, investors, and bankers, to support market intelligence and credit research.
- Help manage and monitor a broad portfolio of credits while identifying opportunities to improve analytical processes, data management, and workflows.
What we're looking for:
- Two to four years of relevant professional experience in financial data analytics, quantitative research, corporate credit analysis, leveraged finance, corporate lending, or a related analytical discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, data analytics, or a related field. Progress toward the CFA designation is a plus.
- Strong financial and quantitative analytical skills, including experience working with financial statements, economic data, and large financial datasets.
- Experience with time-series and cross-sectional data analysis, with an interest in applying quantitative methods to financial markets and credit research.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with strong working knowledge of Python and SQL for financial data analysis, manipulation, and reporting.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau is a plus.
- Experience using AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude to support research, data analysis, or workflow efficiency is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
- A proactive, collaborative approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
