Who you'll be doing it for

You'll join the mobile platform team on a UK government app, working on the app and the services that support it.

The team builds and maintains the common parts of the app, such as login. It also brings in key features built by other teams, and manages app releases.

You're engaged through hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy and certified B Corp, also Great Place to Work certified.

For 20 years we've helped public and private sector organisations through digital transformation.

What you'll be doing

You'll build and improve the common parts of the Android app, such as login, in Kotlin.

You'll lead on the technical design of what you build, and work on how features from other teams fit into the app.

You'll apply secure coding practices every day, using OWASP MASVS to guide how you handle storage, cryptography, authentication and network calls.

You'll write automated tests that run in the CI/CD pipeline, and keep code quality high through code review and pair programming.

You'll make sure releases meet the Play Store review and submission guidelines.

Once a release is live, you'll help keep it running and fix problems as they come up.

What's in it for you

You'll work on a government app used by the public, where security and accessibility matter.

Most of it happens from home, with two trips to London a year.

What you'll need to be considered

You need extensive commercial experience in native Android development with Kotlin.

You've shipped apps to the Play Store and know the Android UI guidelines.

You understand common mobile security risks and how to deal with them, and you know OWASP MASVS.

You're used to TDD, continuous integration, code review and version control.

You're comfortable guiding less experienced engineers.

Experience in government, banking, identity or another regulated environment is a bonus.

You must be eligible for SC clearance, which means you've lived in the UK continuously for the last 5 years. Ideally you'll already hold SC clearance.
