For over forty years, HarbourVest has been home to a committed team of professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for our clients and partners.
We offer a collaborative environment where individuals can build on their strengths, develop new skills, and contribute to a team that values diverse perspectives.
HarbourVest is an equal opportunity employer.
This position will be a hybrid work arrangement with 18 remote workdays per quarter, subject to manager approval.
Position Summary
HarbourVest is seeking a Senior Associate to join our Finance Transformation team as a Workday Financials technology specialist. Collaborating with the Vice President, Workday Financials Product Owner, this role will support and improve HarbourVest's Workday financial technology ecosystem through reporting, analytics, process improvement, and platform administration.
The Senior Associate will support team members across Accounting, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Data Governance, and Technology to help users better understand, use, and optimize Workday Financials and related platforms. Success in this role requires a solid understanding of accounting and financial reporting concepts, curiosity about how systems operate, and a desire to improve business processes through technology.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Workday Financials user, analyst, administrator, accountant, auditor, or financial reporting professional looking to broaden their expertise across Accounting Center, Adaptive Planning, Prism Analytics, AI-enabled capabilities, and broader Finance Transformation initiatives.
What This Role Is (and Isn't)
This is a Workday Financials administration and reporting role that combines an understanding of how financial processes operate within Workday with building reports, tools, and solutions that improve finance and accounting operations. The Senior Associate will help users understand system behavior, investigate transaction activity, support reconciliations, and translate business requirements into effective Workday solutions.
This is not an FP&A role, a Staff Accountant role, or a position responsible for preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations, or completing month-end close activities.
Key Responsibilities
Workday Financial Reporting
- Build, maintain, and improve custom reports in Workday Financials, including advanced, matrix, and composite reports, as well as financial statement reporting.
- Develop dashboards and worklets that give Accounting, Finance, and leadership timely visibility.
- Create and maintain management and close reporting packages in OfficeConnect.
- Reconcile report output to the general ledger and ensure accuracy, consistency, and auditability.
- Translate reporting requests from Accounting and Finance into clear specifications, then build and test the solution.
- Handle report sharing, user access, and documentation.
Workday Financials Support
- Support Financial Data Model (FDM) maintenance, including worktags, hierarchies, and reference data.
- Maintain Account Posting Rules, Elimination Rules, and Accounting and Consolidation Details to align with company accounting policies and GAAP.
- Support Workday Accounting Center administration, including understanding how operational transactions are transformed into accounting and financial reporting outcomes.
- Support the evaluation, testing, and enhancement of Workday Financials business processes, including workflow steps, approvals, and notifications.
- Gather requirements, document enhancement requests, and support release testing and user acceptance testing for Workday updates and new functionality.
- Solve user issues and escalate to IT or Workday support as needed.
- Help evaluate, test, and implement emerging Workday AI capabilities and other productivity tools to improve efficiency, user experience, and business processes.
Workday Adaptive Planning Support
- Support Adaptive Planning operations, including sheets, dimensions, versions, and data loads.
- Maintain Adaptive reports and OfficeConnect packages and keep Adaptive aligned with Workday Financials data.
- Partner with FP&A on model enhancements and requests. You will support the model build, while FP&A will continue to lead the planning content.
Data Quality and Governance
- Maintain data standards across reports and dashboards so definitions stay consistent.
- Follow change management, testing, documentation, and control practices that support the control environment.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Proven experience working with Workday Financials in financial reporting, finance operations, financial systems, accounting, audit, or a techno-functional role.
- Working knowledge of Workday Financials reporting tools, including Report Writer, Dashboards, and OfficeConnect.
- Proficiency in accounting fundamentals, including the general ledger, journals, accruals, and close processes.
- Exposure to Workday business process configuration.
- Attention to detail and the ability to effectively communicate Workday and financial concepts to both finance and technical partners.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Workday Adaptive Planning and/or Accounting Center.
- Curiosity about, or early exposure to, Workday AI and agent capabilities.
- Exposure to Workday Prism Analytics, SQL, or BI tools.
- Familiarity with Workday integrations such as EIB or Core Connectors.
- Workday certification, CPA designation, or CPA candidate status.
- Experience in asset management, private markets, or multi-entity, multi-currency environments.
What You Bring to HarbourVest
- An inquisitive mind and a hands-on approach.
- The ability to connect accounting logic to system design.
- A collaborative, team-oriented demeanor.
