Senior Test Automation Engineer - Robot Framework / Python

We are looking for an experienced Senior Test Automation Engineer to join a data-centric project focused on the validation of laboratory instrument data converted into the Allotrope Simple Model (ASM) format.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining automated validation frameworks, developing reusable testing components in Python and Robot Framework, and ensuring the quality, consistency, and traceability of data across different converter releases and instrument datasets.

You will work closely with technical and business stakeholders, supporting test execution, defect investigation, reporting, and continuous improvement of the validation process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, maintain, and execute Robot Framework validation suites for laboratory instrument data converted to ASM JSON.
  • Translate business requirements, field mappings, SOPs, and validation standards into automated schema, mapping, semantic, and formatting checks.
  • Develop Python readers, custom Robot Framework keywords, and reusable validation libraries for CSV, XML, XLS/XLSX, JSON, and instrument-specific formats.
  • Perform smoke, functional, regression, UAT, and cross-version testing across converter releases and instrument datasets.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to distinguish converter defects, source-data issues, schema changes, and test automation defects.
  • Maintain comprehensive test traceability through mapping identifiers, stable finding and defect keys, execution provenance, and auditable test evidence.
  • Analyze validation results using SQL, DuckDB, and Parquet to identify new, recurring, resolved, reopened, and regressed findings.
  • Prepare and publish Test Summary, Defect Summary, HTML/JSON, and trend reports for technical and business stakeholders.
  • Maintain CI/CD execution and reporting through GitHub Actions, containerized test environments, Artifactory, Jira, and Xray.
  • Support distributed project teams through test reviews, troubleshooting, documentation, defect triage, and technical meetings.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering or test automation, including at least 2 years of experience in data-centric validation.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Robot Framework, including reusable resources, custom Python keyword libraries, parameterized testing, and Robot output analysis.
  • Strong Python development skills, particularly in parsing, data transformation, JSON traversal, numerical comparison, and automated validation.
  • Experience writing SQL for data reconciliation, quality analysis, regression trending, and defect investigation.
  • Hands-on experience validating source-to-target mappings across JSON, CSV, XML, XLS/XLSX, and structured or semi-structured text formats.
  • Knowledge of JSON Schema, semantic data models, controlled vocabularies, and schema-driven validation.
  • Experience with Allotrope Simple Model (ASM) is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of smoke, functional, regression, and UAT testing, as well as defect lifecycle management and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with Git, GitHub Actions or equivalent CI/CD tools, containerized execution, dependency management, and automated report publishing.
  • Experience with Jira and Xray, preferably in an Agile delivery environment.
  • Experience with test evidence management and regulated or GxP laboratory environments is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical validation findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
