Position: Senior Backend Developer Department: Software Development Sector: Software Development Location: Head Office Grade: N/A Organigram Reporting Line: Engineering Manager Subordinates: N/A Relations Internal Relationships: Software Development Team External Relationships: N/A Job Purpose The Senior Backend Developer will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend solutions, contributing to the enhancement of backend systems, ensuring their reliability, performance, and security. Key Responsibilities Main Tasks Backend System Design & Development : Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Java and its frameworks. Code Quality : Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to coding standards and best practices. API Design & Integration : Design and implement RESTful APIs for communication between frontend and backend systems. Third-Party Integration : Integrate backend services with external APIs, third-party systems, and databases. Database Design & Optimization : Design and optimize database schemas for efficient data storage and retrieval. SQL Development : Write complex SQL queries and utilize database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL). Data Models & Migrations : Implement data models and perform database migrations as required. Development Life-Cycle : Contribute to all phases of the development life-cycle. Code Efficiency & Testing : Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Collaborate with frontend developers, UX/UI designers, and product owners to deliver integrated solutions. Continuous Improvement : Investigate alternatives and technologies, presenting these for architectural review. Industry Knowledge : Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to Java backend development. Testing & Quality Assurance : Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing to ensure system stability. Extra Tasks Undertake any other duties assigned by the direct manager. Authorizations and Decision-Making Powers Authority over the backend development process. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Code Quality Delivery Time System Performance & Scalability Velocity Sprint & Release Burndown Job Specifications Graduation Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields. Experience 3 - 5 years of professional experience in Java backend development. Strong understanding of software development best practices, including code optimization, testing, and debugging. Knowledge of software design and architecture patterns. Computer Skills Proficiency in Java, Spring, J2EE, and Spring Boot. Languages Excellent command of written and spoken English. Competencies Technical Competencies Programming Languages : Strong knowledge of Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Java EE, and Java SE. Database Knowledge : Deep understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases (MongoDB, NoSQL). API Development : Extensive experience in designing and developing APIs using RESTful or GraphQL principles. DevOps Tools : Familiarity with DevOps tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Docker. Software Design Patterns : Expertise in Object-Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns. Additional Skills : Experience with Node.js and Nest.js is a plus.
