About The Company
PwC Germany is a leading professional services firm committed to delivering high-quality solutions that address the complex challenges faced by businesses today. With a focus on innovation, integrity, and excellence, PwC provides a wide range of services including consulting, audit, tax, and advisory. Our mission is to build trust in society and solve important problems by leveraging cutting-edge technology and deep industry expertise. As part of the global PwC network, we are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth.
About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Developer (f/m/d) to join our Business Services division at the earliest opportunity. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining critical workflows that support our core business operations. Your expertise will contribute to shipping new features, resolving technical issues, and ensuring the stability and reliability of our systems. Working within a mature PHP/Symfony codebase, you will handle complex business logic and transaction volumes across multiple countries, ensuring our solutions are scalable and robust. You will also play a key role in evolving our architecture towards API-first, framework-agnostic services designed for seamless integration with other systems. Your work will involve designing and maintaining data models, migrations, and audit trails, emphasizing correctness and traceability. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, especially Product, will be essential to understand constraints, shape technical solutions, and own decisions throughout the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background in IT, computer science, or a related field, complemented by at least five years of professional experience in PHP and Symfony. You should be comfortable working within large, customized codebases with high business relevance. Experience with API-based systems such as REST and GraphQL is essential, along with a good understanding of data modeling. Exposure to Node.js or Python in integration scenarios is advantageous. Fluency in English is required, and German language skills are considered a plus for daily collaboration. We value candidates who are structured, reliable, and capable of communicating risks clearly. Additionally, familiarity with AI tools and their appropriate application in development processes is desirable.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include shipping new features, resolving technical issues, and maintaining the stability of workflows critical to our operational and compliance needs. You will work within a mature PHP/Symfony environment, managing complex business logic and high transaction volumes across multiple countries. Contributing to the evolution of our architecture towards API-first, framework-independent services will be a key focus, ensuring our systems are scalable and easily integrated. Designing and maintaining robust data models, migrations, and audit trails will be vital to ensure data integrity and traceability. You will collaborate closely with Product teams to understand business constraints, shape technical solutions, and own decisions end to end. Your role will also involve continuous improvement of existing systems, participating in code reviews, and ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards.
Benefits
At PwC Germany, we offer a flexible working environment that balances in-office and remote work, with no strict core hours. You will have the opportunity to work temporarily in over 40 countries, fostering international exposure. We prioritize your professional growth through continuous training via our internal Academy, international secondments, and ongoing mentorship. Our lifestyle benefits include the ability to accumulate overtime and take time off afterward, 30 days of annual vacation, and paid overtime compensation. Your health and wellbeing are important to us; we provide comprehensive health insurance, preventive medical check-ups, and access to various sports programs, including reduced gym rates and Urban Sports Club memberships. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive workplace where creativity, recognition, and performance are valued, and where you can thrive both professionally and personally.

We do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
