Senior Backend Engineer

Job Opportunity: Senior Data & AI Engineer (Remote LATAM) Industry: Healthcare (FHIR) Type: Remote Region: Latin America (excluding Venezuela & Cuba) Job Summary We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data & AI Engineer-Backend to design, build, and maintain scalable data systems, ML infrastructure, and backend services particularly within the healthcare interoperability domain (FHIR). The ideal candidate has strong cloud expertise, data engineering depth, and solid AI/ML Ops experience. Core Responsibilities Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and real-time processing Develop APIs and backend services using Python and Java Orchestrate workflows using Apache Airflow or similar tools Deploy and monitor AI/ML models using MLOps best practices Manage cloud data platforms and distributed systems Integrate multiple data sources, including FHIR healthcare standards Implement CI/CD pipelines and use Docker/Kubernetes for deployments Apply best practices in data modeling, DBT, DWH design, and governance Ensure data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance Document systems and resolve production issues . Requirements Bachelors degree in Computer Science or 10+ years equivalent experience . 5+ years Python and Java development. 2+ years delivering software projects. 1+ year client-facing or service-based role. Proven experience with: ETL/ELT Big data infrastructure AI/ML workflows Cloud technologies Strong knowledge of CI/CD, containerization, and data warehouse design. Hands on experience with AI tools like ClaudeCode or Cursor. Bonus Points Experience with FHIR or healthcare interoperability. Experience in highly regulated industries.
