About Our Client & The Engagement Our client is a premier AI consulting group that builds serious, production-grade systems for companies ready to operationalize artificial intelligence across their business. This is an 8-month full-time engagement with the potential to become a permanent position The Project We are hiring several senior backend engineers across the build. The components differ in domain (data integration, audience segmentation, access and authorization, and communications), but the engineering profile is the same: senior Java engineers who design and operate large-scale, event-driven, distributed systems on a cloud-native stack. Placement onto a specific component is matched to your background. You won't be slotted into a feature factory: you'll drive architecture alongside the team and own services end to end. Responsibilities Design, build, and evolve core platform services, data models, and APIs Build reliable, replayable, event-driven data and processing pipelines at scale Drive architectural decisions on scalability, resiliency, security, and operability Design delivery mechanisms and integrations for downstream consumers Implement data governance, lineage, auditability, and regulatory compliance Support multi-tenant isolation and regional data residency Partner with product and engineering to define platform capabilities and roadmap Support customer migrations from legacy systems into the new platform Mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the team Ensure reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence Required Experience 5+ years as a backend or platform engineer (software developer or data engineer) Strong expertise in Java Experience building distributed systems at scale Strong experience with event-driven architectures Hands-on with stream processing or messaging systems (Apache Beam, Spark, Flink,Kafka, or queues/streams/brokers) Strong data modeling and schema design skills Experience designing scalable APIs and backend services Cloud-native architecture experience (GCP preferred) Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms Strong understanding of system reliability, fault tolerance, and observability Proven ability to drive architectural decisions and technical initiatives Strong communication and collaboration skills Upper-Intermediate+ English Bonus Scala Apache Beam/Dataflow in production, and Cloud Spanner Data platforms, MDM, CDP, or identity resolution systems Query engines, search platforms (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch), rules engines, orsegmentation platforms Graph-based data models and relationship traversal Authorization systems (RBAC/ABAC), IAM, policy engines (OPA), API gateways, or service mesh Security-critical, compliance-heavy, or regulated environments, and data governance/audit systems Email/SMS delivery, telecom or messaging infrastructure, notification, or marketing automation systems Workflow engines and high-throughput event processing Migrating large-scale legacy systems to cloud-native architectures EdTech or enterprise integration domains Benefits hireworks is cultivating a growing community of top talent across Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Bulgaria.
