Senior Backend Engineer

OUR BACKEND CHALLENGES right now: Design and build a scalable data virtualization, machine learning, and analytics platform leveraging state-of-the-art cloud computing services to make an impact. Our data volume and customers have been increasing considerably, so we need to make sure the platform maintains high standards of performance, availability, quality, and security. OUR STACK: High-throughput and highly-scalable Java application built on top of Dropwizard and SpringBoot; Database CRUD abstractions using Hibernate and JPA; Batch Data processing with Apache Beam, Google Dataflow, Spark; Effective and reliable data storage using block storage (GCS), SQL (Postgres and MySQL), and NoSQL (Couchbase) databases; Streaming/real-time data processing with Google Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Apache Flink; Blazing-fast analytics using Presto and Deltalake; Full-text search capabilities powered by Elasticsearch; Infrastructure as a code on Terraform, backed by Docker and Kubernetes. AS a Senior Back End Engineer, we expect you to: Apply your knowledge towards building a scalable and reliable large scale data platform; Have a good knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms; Use effective software engineering practices to solve problems; Create unit testing for the existing and new code, identifying and proposing new ways to improve the quality of our platform; Research and use pre-existing and well-tested solutions or frameworks to solve our own problems; Be eager to learn new technologies; Be willing to work in a fast-paced environment, and deliver solutions with quality in mind; Communicate and discuss solutions with peers, such as the Data Engineering and Data Science teams. Required Skills: Java experience (5+ years) Messaging frameworks such as NATS, Kafka, Pub/Sub Spring Boot application Spring Framework knowledge (Spring Data, Spring JPA) CI/CD understanding Hibernate and ORM's SQL (Advanced) Bonus Experience with Big Query or Athena Data processing pipeline is a plus
