About the Role
A boutique law firm is seeking a senior attorney to lead and grow its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. This department-head role combines an established portable practice with support for the firm's clients and investment funds navigating distressed portfolio companies.
What You'll Do
Lead the bankruptcy and restructuring practice and help shape its growth.
Advise investment funds on debt-side restructuring and workouts involving troubled portfolio companies.
Handle in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings.
Manage approximately 300 to 400 hours annually of firm-generated bankruptcy work alongside your portable practice.
Mentor and direct a junior associate, and collaborate with attorneys serving existing firm clients.
Continue developing your own client relationships and book of business.
What We're Looking For
Typically 10 to 25 years of bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor-creditor experience, including substantial senior-level experience.
A portable bankruptcy and restructuring practice generating approximately $1 million to $1.5 million in annual collections.
Strong corporate restructuring and debt-side advisory experience, including both court proceedings and out-of-court workouts.
Demonstrated ability to originate and manage client relationships and grow a practice.
J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York.
Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a boutique law firm environment; large-firm experience is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $250,000 to $300,000 annually. The role offers a path to equity partnership and compensation upside. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
Hybrid, based in New York, New York, with approximately three days per week in the office.
