About the Role

As a Senior Bookkeeper, you are responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, and well-organised financial records and supporting the business's effective financial management. This remote role requires a high level of independence, attention to detail, and accountability, with the ability to manage bookkeeping activities, maintain financial integrity, and provide reliable financial information to support business operations and decision-making. The role will work closely with the Finance / Accounts Manager and relevant stakeholders to ensure financial records, project financial information, invoicing, and reporting are maintained accurately and up to date. The successful candidate will bring sound bookkeeping experience, strong organisational skills, and a proactive approach to identifying issues and improving financial processes and systems.


What you’ll do

Financial Management & Bookkeeping

  • Oversee accurate and timely day-to-day financial transactions and bookkeeping within Xero.
  • Maintain financial records, account coding, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with established controls and processes.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Manage the full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycle.
  • Process supplier invoices, customer invoicing, payments, and receipts.
  • Monitor outstanding balances, supplier and customer statements, and follow up on discrepancies or overdue accounts.
  • Maintain strong cash-flow visibility and accurate financial records.

Project Accounting, WIP & Financial Control

  • Maintain Work in Progress (WIP), project costing and financial records across active projects.
  • Ensure labour, materials, subcontractor and other project costs are accurately captured, allocated and reconciled.
  • Support project profitability, cost tracking, progress claims and accurate project invoicing.
  • Provide management with clear visibility of project financial performance and emerging cost issues.

Financial Reporting & Payroll

  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing and related financial records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal controls.
  • Support month-end close, financial reconciliations, and management reporting.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to support business performance and informed decision-making.

Financial Systems and Process Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement across bookkeeping, accounting, and financial control processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and financial visibility.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, optimize the use of Xero, Workforce and other financial systems.
  • Maintain robust processes and controls that support the effective and scalable management of the business.


Qualifications

  • Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related qualification.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ relevant bookkeeping experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Xero and Xero Payroll.
  • Solid knowledge of Australian accounting, payroll, GST, PAYG, superannuation and leave requirements.
  • Experience with AP, AR, invoicing, reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Project-based, construction, manufacturing, or engineering experience is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
