Te Tākinatanga - Our Story At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities. We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working ( mahi ). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. Guided by our tikanga , we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better. Our Retail business is in an exciting phase of continued multi-product growth, supported by a strong focus on continuous improvement, collaboration and better ways of delivering for our customers. As we keep building products, services and experiences that matter to New Zealanders, our teams need clear thinking, strong business analysis discipline and confident delivery support to turn priority work into practical outcomes. This 12-month Senior Business Analyst contract will play an important role in that mahi. With an immediate focus on high-priority Retail initiatives, you’ll help make sure business needs are understood, requirements are clear, and the right people are aligned from discovery through to delivery and adoption. Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity This is a hands-on Senior Business Analyst role where you’ll act as a critical link between business stakeholders, Product Owners and delivery squads. You’ll help translate business priorities into clear, high-quality requirements, support delivery through ambiguity, and make sure initiatives are set up for successful implementation and operation. In this role, you will: Bring structure and clarity to priority Retail initiatives, ensuring business needs, customer impacts and operational requirements are well understood. Work closely with business stakeholders, Product Owners and delivery squads to translate business objectives into requirements, acceptance criteria and business rules. Facilitate workshops, requirements gathering sessions and decision-making forums that help align different viewpoints and move work forward. Analyse current and future state processes and customer journeys, identifying opportunities to improve customer experience, efficiency and operational effectiveness. Support squad delivery by helping refine backlog items, clarify requirements and remove ambiguity throughout the delivery lifecycle. Assess business impacts and readiness needs so operational teams are prepared to adopt delivered changes successfully. Support testing and validation activity, including acceptance criteria, user acceptance testing, defect resolution and business sign-off. Use data, stakeholder feedback and post-implementation learnings to support continuous improvement. You’ll be joining a team where collaboration matters and where the ability to connect detail with the bigger picture will help priority work move with purpose. Ko wai koe | About You You’re someone who brings calm, clarity and curiosity to complex work. You know how to listen well, ask the right questions, and turn business needs into practical requirements that delivery teams can confidently work from. You’ll bring: At least five years’ experience in business analysis, including strong experience documenting functional, non-functional and operational requirements. Experience working on regulatory or compliance-focused initiatives, ideally in an environment with clear regulatory expectations such as energy, financial services or telecommunications. A strong understanding of project delivery lifecycles and Agile ways of working. Confidence working with Product Owners, delivery squads and business stakeholders to shape, test and deliver change. Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to guide workshops, support decision-making and bring people together around shared outcomes. The ability to manage competing views, influence constructively and communicate decisions, impacts and changes clearly. A practical analytical mindset, with the ability to translate information, data and feedback into clear business insight. Experience with business analysis tools and techniques, including process mapping and service journey design. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence and Miro. An understanding of integration patterns, data analysis and software development practices. You’ll be well suited to this role if you enjoy working in spaces where the work is important, the details matter, and the path forward needs to be shaped through strong thinking, collaboration and follow-through. Additional Information This is a 12-month contract opportunity based in either Auckland, Wellington or Tauranga. We support flexible working where it works for the individual, the team and the business. Our main hubs are in Wellington, Auckland and Tauranga, and this role is best suited to someone who can work flexibly from one of these locations to enable strong in person connection and collaboration. While we do have smaller sites across other centres of Aotearoa, proximity to a main hub is important for this role. Applications close on Wednesday 26th August . But just like peak demand, great talent surges early, so if this role sparks your interest, power up your application now! We love a good story at Contact, it’s what keeps our energy flowing! Join us and be part of a team that values your passion and attitude just as much as your experience and skills. Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role. Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero. Te Mata Hiko (Contact Energy) does not accept any CVs received from recruitment agencies where a formal engagement has not been confirmed and agreed to with our Talent team. In the event that unsolicited CVs are submitted by recruitment agencies, Te Mata Hiko (Contact Energy) reserves the right to contact these candidates directly and consider them for current/future vacancies without any financial obligation to the recruitment agency in question. This will also apply to any CVs sent directly to line managers.
