Bring your investigative mindset and revenue cycle expertise to a role where solving complex charge and claim issues creates lasting operational impact. As a Senior Charge Management Coordinator, you will help protect revenue integrity by identifying not only how to resolve billing errors, but why they occurred and how to prevent them from recurring.
This experienced-level position supports UVA Health’s Revenue Integrity operations through Epic work queue management, hospital billing analysis, charge review, denial resolution, and root cause investigation. You will work with a collaborative team that values thoughtful analysis, respectful discussion, independent decision-making, and measurable improvements to revenue cycle performance.
The Role
Approximately 95% of your workday will be spent in Epic, managing complex hospital billing workflows and investigating issues involving claims, charges, clinical documentation, provider orders, and payer requirements. This is not simply a transactional edit-clearing position. You will be expected to recognize patterns, dig into recurring problems, and recommend solutions that improve performance upstream.
In an average day, you may:
- Resolve Epic Hospital Billing work queue errors, claim edits, charge errors, and denial-related issues.
- Review and manage charge review workflows, including Medically Unlikely Edits and medical necessity edits.
- Analyze hospital claims and account activity using clinical documentation, provider orders, charges, revenue codes, CPT fundamentals, and modifiers.
- Research billing requirements across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
- Read and interpret UB claim forms and apply knowledge of hospital charging and reimbursement methodologies.
- Investigate recurring edits and denials to identify root causes, system gaps, and process breakdowns.
- Recognize trends, escalate emerging issues, and recommend long-term process improvements that prevent future errors.
- Collaborate with Revenue Integrity colleagues on complex account reviews and share findings across the work queue and analytics functions.
- Coach, review, or delegate work to less experienced professionals when appropriate.
- Balance productivity and accuracy while independently managing priorities in a predominantly remote environment.
Successful candidates bring at least five years of experience in a complex hospital setting, along with knowledge of third-party billing, reimbursement methodologies, CPT Level II and III HCPCS, hospital charging methods, and medical terminology. A bachelor’s degree is required, although relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
Epic Hospital Billing and work queue experience are highly preferred. Experience with Professional Billing, CMS-1500 claims, coding, revenue integrity, Clinical Documentation Improvement, or academic medical center operations can provide additional value. CPC certification is preferred but not required, and practical Epic knowledge is more important than Epic certification.
The strongest candidates are self-directed professionals who approach problems like investigators. You will thrive in this role if you are naturally curious, willing to question why an issue occurred, receptive to feedback, and comfortable balancing well-supported viewpoints with a shared focus on outcomes.
