About This Role
Geronimo Power is seeking a Civil Engineer III to lead and support civil engineering activities across the project lifecycle for utility-scale energy and digital infrastructure projects, including development, permitting, procurement, design, construction, operations, and continuous improvement.
Working with substantial independence and in partnership with senior engineers and cross-functional stakeholders, the Civil Engineer III evaluates technical information, coordinates complex engineering activities, resolves design and field issues, and helps ensure projects meet safety, permitting, constructability, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support civil engineering activities from preliminary site evaluation and preconstruction planning through RFP development, project award, construction, and operations.
- Conduct design reviews, in coordination with owner’s engineers, for grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, access roads, and related infrastructure; coordinate input from internal reviewers and key stakeholders.
- Evaluate third-party civil designs, calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications for alignment with project requirements, permit conditions, applicable standards, and Geronimo Power design criteria.
- Identify civil, permitting, constructability, schedule, and cost risks and recommend practical mitigation measures during development, design, and construction.
- Develop scopes of work and coordinate civil engineering consultants performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage studies, site grading design, stormwater modeling, erosion and sediment control design, and related field investigations.
- Review hydrologic, hydraulic, drainage, and stormwater analyses, including watershed delineation, runoff conditions, drainage pathways, discharge points, detention, or retention needs, culvert sizing, and impacts to adjacent properties and receiving systems.
- Evaluate how soils, infiltration characteristics, groundwater conditions, slopes, and existing land cover may affect runoff, erosion potential, drainage performance, and stormwater management design.
- Coordinate grading and drainage recommendations with civil design teams, EPC contractors, environmental and permitting teams, surveyors, land representatives, equipment suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
- Assess site conditions and design decisions for impacts to project cost, schedule, permitting, constructability, long-term drainage performance, and operations and maintenance requirements.
- Manage civil site evaluation and stormwater planning for utility-scale solar, wind, energy storage, substation, transmission, and powered data infrastructure projects, including evaluation of topography, drainage patterns, floodplain constraints, site access, grading requirements, and stormwater management needs.
- Conduct site visits and field reviews to evaluate topography, drainage features, erosion conditions, access constraints, discharge locations, and sites under consideration by the development team.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with consultants, subconsultants, engineering firms, contractors, vendors, and internal partners.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of civil design standards and criteria for grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, roads, and project site infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with civil design standards and permit requirements through review of third-party quality documentation and verification of final drawings, calculations, reports, inspection records, and test data.
- Provide civil engineering technical support to construction and plant operations for grading, drainage, stormwater controls, erosion repairs, roads, related infrastructure, and asset improvement activities.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline, with coursework or experience in hydrology, hydraulics, site development, grading, drainage, and stormwater management; master’s degree preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EI/EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering and construction experience; utility-scale renewable energy development and EPC design or technical problem-solving experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of civil site design, hydrology and hydraulics, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, access roads, and construction-phase stormwater protection requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local civil design criteria, stormwater regulations, permitting requirements, and commonly used standards and guidance for hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
- Proficiency with civil engineering software and tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, Google Earth, ArcGIS, or comparable applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Ability to travel up to 15%.
Success in This Role Looks Like
- Civil designs and technical reviews are accurate, timely, constructible, and aligned with project requirements and permit conditions.
- Civil and stormwater risks are identified early, clearly communicated, and addressed before they materially affect cost, schedule, or operations.
- Consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders receive clear direction and coordinated technical decisions.
- Design standards, quality documentation, and final deliverables are consistently maintained and applied across projects.
- Construction and operations teams receive responsive, practical technical support that improves long-term site performance.
What You’ll Get
- Competitive compensation and performance-based incentives
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
- Paid time off and holidays
- Tuition assistance and ongoing professional development
- Employee assistance program (EAP) and wellness resources
- Pet insurance and employee discount programs
Pay Range for the posted level: $121,000 - $150,000 plus target annual bonus opportunity of 15%. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and demonstrated market-relevant expertise.
