We are looking to hire a Senior Civil Engineer to join Barker Associates, an award-winning, employee-owned, multi-disciplinary property consultancy. You will lead the design, planning and delivery of civil engineering projects, working across a varied portfolio of projects and clients.
This is a senior-level position with responsibility for project leadership and delivery, ensuring projects meet time, cost and quality requirements. The role includes managing client relationships, coordinating with internal teams and external design consultants, supporting other members of the team and making technical decisions that influence project and client outcomes.
The role will include managing civil engineering surveys, approving technical calculations, preparing technical documentation and drawings for planning, tender and construction, undertaking site inspections, managing construction plans, contributing to tender analysis and chairing project meetings. It will also involve delivering detailed drainage, highways and infrastructure designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and applying Sustainable Drainage Systems principles to surface water management.
The person will also have responsibility for client relationships and aspects of project commercial management, including fee projections and invoicing.
The role will involve travel for site visits and client meetings.
We are looking for someone who can lead projects and take ownership of delivery. They should be confident managing client relationships directly, coordinating with internal teams and external design consultants, chairing project meetings and presenting technical decisions to clients.
Technically, the successful candidate should have strong consultancy-based civil engineering design and project delivery experience, particularly across drainage, highways and infrastructure, with experience producing detailed designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Knowledge of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and surface water management is important, and experience with InfoDrainage is desirable.
We are looking for someone with a degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Ideally they will be working towards or approaching professional membership or Chartered Engineer status with the ICE (MICE/CEng).
They should be comfortable managing multiple project priorities. A full clean driving licence, access to a vehicle, and the ability to commute to our Braintree office are required.
