If you've watched a few "cloud is easy" promises break in production, and you still want to be the one who builds it properly, this role at Gapps is worth a look.

Have you been thinking about your next career step, somewhere you'd get to actually do this?

Maybe you're not actively looking for a new role right now, but maybe you've been thinking:

  • You'd like to design the architecture and write the code for it too.

  • You want real ownership of infrastructure and security decisions, with clear priorities from leadership.

  • You're tired of hand-offs where one person designs, and someone else builds.

  • You want colleagues sharp enough to spar with every day.

At Gapps, we’ve learned that senior cloud experts want to get to know potential future employers well before they’re ready to make a move. We also want to connect with Senior Cloud Architects early -before there’s an urgent hiring need.

If that sounds like you, this is your invitation to start the conversation with us.

What this role is about, in short

✅ Purpose: You'll design and build Google Cloud environments for our customers end to end: networks, IAM, security controls and guardrails, and the platforms their teams deploy on. At Gapps, the architect builds what they design, in code.

💬 "At a lot of consulting companies, an architect designs something and stops there. Someone else builds it," says Eelis Orvas, our Principal Cloud & Security Architect. Architecture, customer conversations and the build are all one job here, and the build stays with you. Eelis puts that part bluntly: "Here, at Gapps, if you design it, you build it too, and all of it happens in code. You need to be technical."

✅ Location: Hybrid role in Finland. Work remotely or from our Helsinki HQ (Kalasatama). What we care about is impact and ownership. There's no required number of office days.

✅ Growth: You can grow toward principal-level architecture or deeper into security. There's also room to shape how Gapps builds its cloud services, including AI-related work for customers.

✅ Team: You'll join our Google Cloud team, where tenures range from 8 months to nearly 10 years. Everyone is usually deep in a different customer's problem, and the team meets in a 30-minute daily standup where blockers surface and people offer help.

✅ No bench: We hire when there's work. Nobody is brought in to sit and wait for a project to start.

✅ Compensation: Salary range for senior cloud talents 72 000–90 000 € / year depending on your experience and seniority. Principal-level profiles discussed individually.

🚫 Why this probably isn't for you: At Gapps, the architect also builds. If you'd rather design and hand the build to someone else, this won't fit. The work is customer work, and you'll often spend long stretches inside one customer's environment or development team. If you want a purely internal role, this probably won't feel right. We also ask what you want to build next. If the honest answer is "whatever pays best", the fit probably isn't there.

Why this could be your next career move

Maybe you've spent years in platform engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps, and security has become a natural part of how you work.

You know Google Cloud well. You've probably also watched a design turn into something else by the time it runs in production. Here that stays in your hands. You design it, you build it, and you see how it behaves in production.

What the work looks like depends on the customer. Right now, one architect on the team has spent about 10 months on AI-related work for one customer, and another spends most of his time inside a customer's development team. Another has spent this whole year on GCP development for a single customer.

This is a strong next career step if you:

  • Want both clear frames and room to execute: priorities you understand, and no micromanagement

  • Like working close to customers and being trusted with the hard technical calls

  • Care about technical honesty and customer value that holds up in audits, recovery, and real incidents

  • Appreciate calm, professional collaboration more than hype or heroics

💬 "A good colleague should think like a trusted advisor," says Alejandro López Vidal, our Senior Cloud Architect. "We're not trying to squeeze the client. We're trying to give them the best value."

Gapps is a good place for professionals who have a life outside work and still care about doing high-quality work. We're an expert house that's deliberately growing up: building clearer structures and raising the bar on how we deliver.

If you want a role where your technical judgment is trusted and you can see your own work running in production years later, this might be it.

Role details

What you'd actually do

As a Senior Cloud & Security Architect, you own the technical design of customer environments and build them with the team. You make the architecture decisions, explain the trade-offs to people who aren't architects, and stand behind the result.

Your work typically includes:

  • Designing Google Cloud architectures and building them in code

  • Building security into the foundation: IAM, networking, guardrails, and audit readiness

  • Improving existing environments: security, cost (including FinOps work), performance, and governance

  • Working embedded in a customer's development team when the project needs it

  • Using AI tools in your daily work, from writing code to running your tasks

  • Sparring with the rest of the team and supporting less experienced consultants

The team uses AI every day, each in their own way. For Eelis, it changed what building looks like:

💬 "I don't build much myself anymore," says Eelis. "It's prompting, looking at the output, and correcting what I want done differently."

What a typical week looks like

Most weeks include a mix of:

  • The team's 30-minute daily standup

  • Hands-on architecture and build work, in code

  • Customer meetings and workshops (remote and occasionally on-site)

  • Technical decisions with customer IT, security and development teams

  • Problem-solving when production doesn't match the plan (because it rarely does)

Some projects run for years. Eelis started building an insurance customer's Google Cloud environment from nothing five years ago, and today almost all of their infrastructure runs on Google Cloud. What stays consistent is that you own your part and say it early when something changes.

Who you'd work with

Internally, you'll work closely with:

  • Other architects in our Google Cloud team, from principal level to newer team members

  • Project & Change Managers, who lead overall delivery and change tracks

  • Other Google Cloud consultants with different backgrounds and strengths

On the customer side, your stakeholders typically include:

  • IT leadership and internal project managers

  • Information security

  • The customer's own development and platform teams

  • Steering groups in larger organizations

💬 "In a lot of consultancies, there's a wall between you and management. Here, everyone's approachable, even the CEO, Vesa Sironen, and if something's actually blocking you, it gets removed fast," says Jarno Nauska, our Principal Cloud & Security Architect.
