Compliance Officer - Regulatory Focus
Europe (remote or hybrid) | EUR3,000-EUR4,000 gross per month B2B | Full-time
Two positions: Cryptoasset Regulation and E-Money & Payments
Build the regulatory frameworks behind Paybis' next stage of growth
Paybis is hiring two Compliance Officers to strengthen a global compliance team delivering three major authorisation programmes in parallel. These are regulatory drafting and licensing roles, not operational AML or transaction-monitoring positions.
You will join an established international crypto and payments business whose regulatory perimeter is central to both its B2C platform and B2B infrastructure. The documents you write and the controls you help implement have a direct effect on market access, product launches and revenue.
About Paybis
Paybis was founded in 2014 and is a self-funded fintech business with around 200 people. It serves approximately 8.5 million users across more than 180 countries through a B2C crypto platform and B2B infrastructure for on/off-ramps, payouts and white-label compliance.
In May 2026, Paybis secured both a MiCA CASP authorisation and a PSD2 Payment Institution licence in Latvia. The next priorities include UK cryptoasset and EMI authorisations, a Latvian EMI application and implementation of the licences already granted.
The two tracks
Track 1 - Cryptoasset Regulation
You will own work across the UK cryptoasset authorisation, implementation of the Latvian MiCA CASP authorisation and the business-wide crypto risk framework.
Your work will include:
- drafting and maintaining the MiCA policy set;
- preparing FCA submissions and responses to regulatory RFIs;
- designing and documenting the TFR / Travel Rule framework;
- documenting blockchain-analytics controls, including methodology, thresholds and exposure attribution;
- working with ICT on DORA and operational-resilience documentation;
- assessing new cryptoassets, chains, custody models and crypto counterparties;
- supporting Jersey VASP registration when prioritised.
Track 2 - E-Money & Payments
You will own work across the Latvian EMI application, UK AEMI authorisation and implementation of the Latvian PI licence.
Your work will include:
- drafting governance and internal-control narratives, policies and regulator responses;
- owning safeguarding methodology, account structure, reconciliation evidence, breach reporting and audit readiness;
- preparing own-funds, initial-capital and wind-down documentation;
- assessing payment products, payment-flow changes, agents, distributors and outsourcing arrangements;
- tracking regulatory commitments through implementation and verified closure.
Responsibilities shared by both tracks
- Draft substantive regulator-facing policies, procedures, risk assessments, control descriptions and application materials.
- Own document maps, regulatory requirement matrices and evidence rooms.
- Coordinate responses to regulators, external counsel and consultants while retaining ownership of the content.
- Translate regulatory requirements into practical product, operational and governance changes.
- Support regulatory reporting, audits, inspections and cross-cover during peak periods.
What we are looking for
- At least five years of regulatory compliance experience, including three years inside an entity authorised by a national competent authority in the relevant perimeter.
- Personal authorship of substantive regulator-facing documents. You should be able to explain what you wrote, what the regulator challenged and how the issue was resolved.
- Experience taking an authorisation or registration through submission and regulator review.
- Ability to navigate primary legislation and guidance independently and distinguish legal requirements from risk appetite.
- Experience across more than one regulator or clear evidence that your regulatory reasoning transfers between jurisdictions.
- Practical understanding of transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, case management and blockchain analytics controls.
- Fluent professional English and strong written drafting.
For the Crypto track, you will also need hands-on MiCA/CASP, FCA cryptoasset or comparable NCA-licensed VASP experience, plus practical knowledge of the Travel Rule and blockchain-analytics control design.
For the Payments track, you will also need hands-on EMI/PI authorisation experience and personal ownership of safeguarding, governance or wind-down documentation.
Operational KYC, CDD or transaction-monitoring experience alone is not sufficient for either position. CAMS, ICA or similar certifications are welcome, but drafting quality and authorisation experience matter more.
Why join
- Work on the rare combination of MiCA CASP, PI, EMI and UK crypto authorisation programmes.
- Own regulator-facing work rather than support a case queue.
- See your policies and controls translated directly into live product and business decisions.
- Work across jurisdictions without automatically taking statutory MLRO responsibility.
- Join a remote-first European team with direct access to senior compliance leadership.
Working model
- Location: approved European engagement locations; remote or hybrid.
- Working hours: at least four hours of overlap with the European working day.
- Travel: occasional trips to Riga.
- Contract: long-term B2B, or employment where legally and operationally available.
- Compensation: EUR3,000-EUR4,000 gross per month.
- Start: as soon as possible.
Interview process
The process will test the specific track most relevant to your experience, including a written exercise focused on regulatory drafting. We do not expect one candidate to cover both specialisations.
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is €3,000 – €4,000 per month.
