The business

We’re an AI-native, human-led business built to help clients reimagine, reinvent, and lead their markets into the AI era. We bring the imagination, intellect and market insight, execution smarts, and adaptive approach to collaboration required to help leaders deliver real change.

We work with clients in four closely interdependent markets: central Government, including departments, agencies, and strategic, commercial suppliers; health and care, including national bodies, trusts, place-based partners, and commercial and digital suppliers; education, including national bodies, awarding organisations, and front-line institutions; and, the FTSE - principally leveraging our expertise in AI and associated capability building.

Through A WORKS we collaborate with thought leaders, innovators, and AI-specialist devs to build products which tackle the biggest problems we see in the markets we support – setting aside the consulting commercial model to work in whatever ways best solve the problem.

For example, through Project Shybird, we’re building an AI-powered platform and apps which reimagine the learning value chain: conducting epic capability research, supporting rapid high-quality qualification and programme definition, enabling course design and content creation, personalisation of learning experiences – and new levels of insight for the future.

We’re a business powered by the passion, grit, insight, intellect, and execution-smarts of our people: a tightly knit team of experts, willing to challenge market convention, and our colleagues, in pursuit of the transformational change we believe is possible through the dawn of the AI era.

Role specification

This role offers you the opportunity to connect strategy, technology and delivery. You’ll lead smaller engagements or substantial workstreams within larger programmes, working with senior sponsors and technical colleagues to turn complex challenges into clear decisions and deliverable change.

You are currently a Senior Consultant or equivalent role in digital delivery, business analysis, product, technology consulting or transformation in a consultancy, public sector digital function or client-side role.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate how they own their work, build client trust and bring business and technical perspectives together. You’ll bring a strong grounding in digital transformation and public sector digital environments, alongside curiosity about the practical uses of AI. You should be comfortable exploring technical choices and challenging assumptions.

Why this move?

  • Broader ownership: connect the initial client problem with operating model choices, service design and delivery - not just one part of the engagement.

  • Work with a clear purpose: tackle challenges in public services, learning and enterprise transformation, with a focus on practical outcomes.

  • AI grounded in real problems: help clients decide where AI adds value and work with development colleagues to translate promising ideas into usable solutions.

  • A voice in the business: contribute to our digital and AI offer, coach colleagues and help shape how a growing consultancy works.

  • Build on your strengths: bring your existing digital specialism into a broader consulting role without needing to be an expert in every discipline.

What you’ll do

  • Shape the direction. Lead digital and AI strategy, operating model and service design work. Help clients define the problem, understand user and organisational needs, and prioritise changes that improve outcomes and efficiency.

  • Turn strategy into delivery. Help clients select and introduce the technology products and capabilities their transformation needs, drawing on Avencera’s development capability where it is the right fit.

  • Strengthen digital capability. Review digital, data and technology functions, particularly in the public sector. Work with specialists to assess technology choices, workforce needs and ways of working in the context of Government Digital Service standards.

  • Make complex decisions understandable. Translate architecture, delivery trade-offs and technology risks into clear options and recommendations that senior sponsors can act on.

  • Keep delivery focused on outcomes. Provide consulting leadership and proportionate oversight of client development projects. Agree scope and success measures, track quality and progress, surface risks early and help clients and delivery teams make timely decisions.

  • Partner with technical colleagues. Build a constructive relationship with our development team, clarify requirements and challenge choices collaboratively. Bring business context into technical discussions and identify where further support would genuinely help the client.

  • Develop others and our practice. Coach colleagues to work confidently with technical stakeholders, share useful approaches and strengthen our digital and AI consulting capability.

  • Help grow the right work. Contribute to proposals, client conversations and thought leadership across our markets. Bring delivery insight to our digital and AI offer and help identify opportunities where we can make a meaningful difference.

Person specification

  • 4+ years digital consulting and delivery experience. You’ve led a substantial workstream or smaller engagement, helping an organisation move from a complex problem to a practical plan or delivered change. You understand how technology, services, people and operating models fit together.

  • Client credibility. You can build trusted relationships, facilitate constructive discussions and challenge assumptions with evidence. An established network is useful, but the ability to earn trust matters more than arriving with a ready-made client book.

  • Technical fluency and sound judgement. You can discuss technology choices, dependencies and risks with specialists and explain their implications to non-technical stakeholders. You’re interested in AI’s practical applications and know when to bring in deeper expertise.

  • Public sector understanding. You have experience of public sector digital environments and relevant service standards and can apply that understanding to realistic delivery and organisational decisions.

  • Clear communication and analysis. You can make sense of incomplete information, produce concise recommendations and write and present well for different audiences.

  • Collaborative ownership. You take responsibility for quality and follow-through, support colleagues and use thoughtful challenge to improve the work. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and interested in helping build a growing business.

  • Useful additional strengths. Experience in AI-enabled transformation, agile delivery, product or service design, digital operating models, technology assurance or business development would be valuable. You do not need deep expertise in every area: bring a clear strength and the willingness to broaden it.

Working location

At least two days per week in the firm’s Farringdon office.

Package

  • Basic salary of £65,000 - £85,000 depending on expertise.

  • Up to 20% bonus based on firm and individual performance.

  • 27 days’ annual leave, excluding bank holidays, rising to 30 based on performance.

  • Private medical and dental insurance.
