WHO WE ARE

Magnus Energy helps organisations navigate the energy transition. As one of Europe’s leading energy consultancies, we support system operators, energy suppliers, regulatory authorities and many others from strategy through to delivery. From setting a new direction and reshaping organisations, to moving projects forward, delivering change and optimising operations.

Our diverse international team includes technical experts, programme managers, management consultants and pragmatic problem-solvers. With 17+ nationalities across five European hubs, we cover every aspect of the energy transition - working towards a secure, sustainable and affordable energy system, and a bright future for all.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

We are looking for a Senior Consultant Energy Flexibility, who wants to help shape the future of Europe's energy system. You will work on diverse, high-impact projects at the intersection of energy technologies, electricity markets and regulation, helping clients, market parties, investors and system operators, unlock the value of flexibility. Combining your technical expertise with data analysis and market insights, you will develop practical solutions to complex challenges. You will have the opportunity to lead analytical workstreams, work directly with leading energy-sector stakeholders across Europe, contribute to business development and help shape Magnus Energy’s expertise in energy flexibility.

In summary, you will:

  • Share your knowledge of energy flexibility with clients and colleagues, making complex concepts, markets and technologies easy to convey and helping clients build a shared and actionable understanding of flexibility opportunities.

  • Bring a broad understanding of flexible assets and asset behaviour, going beyond batteries, to understand how industrial production processes, flexible generation, heating and cooling, thermal storage, EV charging, electrolysers, power-to-X and other flexible assets can provide flexibility. You work with industrial experts, engineers and operators to understand how these assets and processes actually behave, including the technical and operational constraints that determine when, how much and for how long flexibility can realistically be activated.

  • Collaborate across disciplines, working with clients, analysts, engineers, industrial specialists, market experts and project developers to connect asset behaviour, energy systems, grids, markets, regulation and economics and arrive at flexibility solutions that work in practice.

  • Analyse data to identify flexibility opportunities, using market data, load profiles, production data, asset characteristics and operational constraints to translate theoretical potential into practical, technically and operationally realistic flexibility procurement or provision models.

  • Contribute to investment-grade business cases for flexibility by combining regulatory, technical, operational and market analysis with revenues, avoided costs, CAPEX/OPEX, opportunity costs, value stacking and risk, supported by robust scenario and sensitivity analysis.

  • Independently lead flexibility-related tasks or work packages from problem definition and methodology through analysis to conclusions and deliverables, taking responsibility for analytical quality, assumptions and content while working collaboratively as part of a broader project team.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an analytical, proactive and ambitious team player with a strong technical foundation and the ambition to deepen electricity market, flexibility and consulting expertise. You work autonomously, communicate complex findings clearly and take responsibility for high-quality results.

You bring:

  • MSc degree in Energy Economics, Electrical Engineering, Complex Systems Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in the EU, preferably within an energy system consultancy, flexibility service provider, BSP, CSP, BRP, TSO or DSO.

  • Good knowledge of electricity markets, esp. TSO/DSO system service markets

  • Practical experience in data analytics, working with large time-series datasets, energy balances, price series, load profiles, production data and asset characteristics

  • Experience working directly with clients or stakeholders and independently delivering technical workstreams

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to grasp complex concepts and convey them succinctly.

  • Full proficiency in English. Additional fluency in Dutch, German/ French preferred.

Good to have:

  • Demonstrable experience with electricity market modelling, portfolio modelling, advanced data analytics and AI tools in a big plus

  • Industry experience from a flexibility provider, a system operator or industrial flexibility is a big plus

  • Practical experience in the investment and/or PPA space.
