Team Overview
he GTDA FinOps Strategy, Governance & Value Realization team sits at the intersection of technology, business, and finance. The team partners across Cloud Engineering, Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, Finance, and business leadership to improve cost transparency, capacity planning, optimization accountability, and investment value realization. Its mission is to build strategy ,trusted reporting, governance standards, and decision-ready insights that help TransUnion manage cloud infrastructure & AI spend more effectively while enabling sustainable technology growth.
This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Cloud /AI infrastructure Cost Reporting: Own trusted reporting for cloud, AI, and on-prem infrastructure spend across leadership levels.
- Capacity Planning & Utilization Analysis: Consolidate demand signals, analyze usage trends, and support forward-looking capacity decisions.
- Optimization Pipeline & Value Realization: Manage cost optimization opportunities from identification through Finance-validated realization.
- FinOps Governance & Standards: Build governance processes, playbooks, RACIs, reporting standards, and escalation models.
- Federated FinOps Enablement: Support embedded FinOps leaders with training, data packages, benchmarks, and consistent operating practices.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with engineering, finance, and business stakeholders to drive decisions, accountability, and cost ownership.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
- Experience in cloud financial management, infrastructure capacity planning, IT finance, enterprise reporting, or a closely related analytical discipline.
- Advanced understanding of cloud and business capacity planning, with a strong track record in performance analysis and executive-level reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of public cloud platforms — GCP and/or AWS — including savings plans, committed-use discounts, reservations, tagging strategies, and resource lifecycle management.
- Proficiency in Google BigQuery for querying, modeling, and analyzing cloud cost and usage datasets at scale.
- Deep, hands-on understanding of enterprise infrastructure including server, storage, network, virtualization (VMware), database, middleware, and common operating systems.
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for reporting and executive communication; hands-on experience with cloud cost tooling such as Harness CCM strongly preferred.
- Experience building and owning capacity utilization reporting across storage, server, VMware, database, and network infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and interpret usage statistics, develop forward-looking capacity projections, and validate assumptions with stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and lead complex analytical workstreams in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Strong influencing and communication skills — able to translate complex infrastructure and cost data into clear recommendations and executive narratives.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior analysts or consultants.
- The ability to socialize ideas, build cross-functional consensus, and drive decisions in a matrixed or federated organization.
GOOD TO HAVE
- FinOps Foundation certification (FOCP or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrated expertise in FinOps operating models.
- Scripting or automation skills — VBA, PowerShell, SQL, or Python — with a track record of building reporting automation that reduces manual effort.
- Experience with Splunk or similar observability/analytics platforms for infrastructure performance analysis.
- Experience integrating cloud /AI economics data into enterprise financial planning workflows including forecasting, budgeting, chargeback/showback, and savings recognition.
- Experience designing or operating within a federated or matrixed technology organization across cloud engineering, product engineering, and finance functions.
- Familiarity with JIRA, ServiceNow/Remedy, or similar workflow systems for optimization tracking and work-item routing.
- Experience with AI/ML or GPU infrastructure economics and governance.
- Background in cloud cost automation, anomaly detection, or agent-based FinOps tooling
