Job Summary

The Senior - Controllership Analyst plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data within an organization. This position is responsible for managing financial reporting, conducting detailed analysis, and supporting various accounting functions. The role requires a strong background in accounting, finance, and data analysis, along with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. The Senior Analyst collaborates with cross-functional teams, auditors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. Additionally, this role contributes to process improvements and operational efficiencies to enhance financial reporting accuracy.


Essential Job Functions

  • Perform key reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis to support the closing process. Ensure timely completion of closing activities, including accruals and adjustments. Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data to improve reporting accuracy. - (25%)
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and potential risks. Develop reports and presentations to communicate financial insights to leadership. Collaborate with business units to provide data-driven recommendations for financial decision-making. - (25%)
  • Identify inefficiencies in existing accounting and reporting processes and recommend improvements. Participate in system enhancements, automation initiatives, and finance transformation projects. Implement best practices to streamline workflows and improve financial data accuracy. - (20%)
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable standards. Assist in regulatory reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required financial disclosures. Maintain and enhance internal controls to uphold financial integrity and mitigate risk. - (15%)
  • Work closely with other finance, accounting, and operational teams to ensure consistency in financial reporting. Support ad hoc projects and initiatives related to mergers, acquisitions, or system upgrades. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior analysts, fostering professional development within the team. - (10%)
  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing documentation and explanations as needed. Support compliance efforts by ensuring adherence to company policies and accounting standards. Work closely with regulators and auditors to address findings and implement corrective actions. - (5%)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience with accounting, finance or audit.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
  • 7+ years of experience in Accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, internal controls, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience within the financial services or banking industry, with exposure to credit card lending strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with large-scale databases, financial systems, or data-intensive applications.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Essbase, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; comparable financial reporting or ERP tools may also be considered.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to SEC reporting and regulatory financial reporting processes.

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment. (Remote or Hybrid), 3 to 4 days per month are required in office if within 60 miles of a posted Bread Financial location.

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):

$81,100.00 - $129,800.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $93,300.00 - $162,300.00
Colorado: $81,100.00 - $142,800.00
New York: $89,200.00 - $162,300.00
Washington: $89,200.00 - $149,300.00
Maryland: $89,200.00 - $142,800.00
Washington DC: $93,300.00 - $149,300.00
Illinois: $81,100.00 - $142,800.00
New Jersey: $93,300.00 - $149,300.00
Vermont: $81,100.00 - $129,800.00
Ohio: $81,100.00 - $129,800.00
Maine: $81,100.00 - $129,800.00
Connecticut: $89,200.00 - $142,800.00
Virginia: $81,100.00 - $129,800.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.


You must be work authorized in the United States on a full time basis without the need for any sponsorship now or in the future from any employer or organization. The Company cannot offer employment to F-1 (student) visa holders.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
