The Opportunity
This position will add value by strengthening RS Group’s control environment and support compliance with Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code, with a focus on Information Services and Technology (IST) controls. The role focuses on the support for IST control matters, ensuring technology‑enabled controls, predominantly operating within SAP, are well designed, effectively tested, and remediated in line with regulatory expectations and the needs of a global, matrixed organisation. SAP experience is essential, given the system’s central role in the Group’s control framework.
The Group Controls function is responsible for building and embedding a robust control environment across RS Group. This includes designing and implementing a global controls framework aligned to principal risks and financial risks, supporting compliance with the UK Corporate Governance Code, and enabling effective governance and risk management. The team works closely with Finance, Transformation, Operational Audit, ESG, and other key stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes.
What You Will Be Doing
Reporting to the Director, Internal Controls, this role provides specialist oversight and assurance over IST controls, including IT General Controls (ITGC), IT Automated Controls (ITAC) and Segregation of Duties (SoD). The role leads process and control walkthroughs, ensuring IST controls are well designed, accurately documented and integrated into end‑to‑end processes. It provides day‑to‑day coordination and oversight of control activities. This role is responsible for maintaining the quality and accuracy of control information in AuditBoard, monitoring and reporting on control performance, coordinating and completing testing, and providing oversight and expertise in the remediation and continuous improvement of IT controls, in line with recognised IT control standards.
As the primary stakeholder contact for IST controls, this role works closely with Senior stakeholders across global Technology teams, including Cybersecurity and Access Management, alongside external partners. The role contributes insights and reporting in governance forums, supports cross‑functional change programmes, and helps ensure IT controls remain aligned to the Group’s evolving technology landscape and regulatory requirements.
Through strong engagement across a global, matrixed organisation, the role helps embed a robust and reliable IST control environment that not only meets regulatory requirements but does the right thing for the business and supports a culture of continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in IT audit, technology risk, ITGC testing, internal controls or technology assurance within a complex or multinational organisation.
- Practical understanding of IT general controls (change management, logical access, system operations) and their role in supporting ICFR and broader governance requirements.
- Good understanding and experience of IST control frameworks (for example NIST, ISO27001).
- Strong and practical experience of SAP, including role design, access controls and Segregation of Duties concepts (for example conflict matrices, mitigating controls, critical access reviews).
- Ability to interpret SoD and access risk reporting from SAP tools (for example SAP GRC, ARA) and work with technical teams to resolve conflicts in line with best practice guidance.
- Ability to develop and maintain accurate control documentation and ensure alignment with process risks.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and support control owners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and improvement focused mindset.
- Highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated accountability, attention to detail and commitment to high-quality delivery.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in distribution, e-commerce, or other operationally complex environments.
- Exposure to finance transformation, process harmonisation, or ERP implementation projects.
- Familiarity with UK Corporate Governance Code, SOX, or similar regulatory frameworks.
- Experience working with controls systems (e.g., AuditBoard), including maintenance, data quality and reporting.
- Professional qualifications in IST audit, risk or controls (e.g., CISA, CISSP, CISM, CIA) desirable.
- Additional qualifications in risk or controls (e.g., CISA, CRMA, IRM qualifications) are advantageous.
