Looking to elevate your career? Join us!

Work Location: Remote with onsite as needed

Work Hours: Full Time

Senior Data Engineer will play a lead role in architecting and building the data infrastructure that powers the organization’s reporting, analytics, and decision-making, with particular depth in data migrations and healthcare data domains. This individual will be responsible for designing data solutions that follow medallion architecture best practices, meet business and compliance needs, and adhere to high standards of engineering, scalability, and knowledge transfer. This high-impact role requires a self-directed, technically deep individual who can move fluidly between complex projects and decisions, with a bias toward building durable solutions rather than one-off fixes while maintaining a high output velocity.

Department/Center Highlights:

  • Ability to work autonomously within a large medical organization that enables the person to build and cultivate strong relationships.
  • Opportunity to work with leading technology.
  • Chance to work for a large, national organization with room to grow and advance in their role.

Here is what you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data management, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, with demonstrated experience architecting solutions, not just building them
  • Expert-level SQL and Python, with a track record of leading technical direction on complex projects
  • Advanced knowledge of medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold layers), with the judgment to set standards for where each stage of a transformation belongs
  • You’ve led a project where the plan changed midstream, incomplete documentation forced a judgment call, or a source system didn’t match what anyone expected, and your call is the one the team followed
  • Experience using AI or LLM tools to learn new systems faster, automate repetitive work, accelerate development, and QA outputs before they ship
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: mentoring, setting standards, or leading projects end to end
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD tools
  • Experience with healthcare data and HIPAA requirements is a plus

A Day in the Life of a Senior Data Engineer:

  • Provide services and support for the following areas:
    • Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines and ETL processes, setting the technical approach for projects from source to solution, including data migrations and lakehouse loads for reporting and analytics
    • Work directly with source system owners and business stakeholders to understand data requirements, translating ambiguous or incomplete information into reliable technical solutions, and reviewing junior engineers’ approaches
    • Architect data flows across a variety of source systems using SQL and cloud data technologies, applying DevOps practices to deploy pipelines reliably at scale
    • Establish data quality control and validation standards, working with business users for verification and sign-off on complex or high-risk changes
    • Navigate ambiguity and incomplete information independently, leading efforts on the most complex problems and setting the standard for how the team handles risk when the right path isn’t clear
    • Lead the development of data solutions that meet HIPAA and data security requirements, advising on compliance questions across the team
    • Lead process improvement initiatives: automating manual work, improving data delivery, or redesigning pipelines for greater scalability
    • Use AI and LLM tools thoughtfully to accelerate development, and help establish team standards for where they speed up the work versus where hands-on expertise is still required
    • Mentor junior data engineers and lead their technical development
