Job Title: Senior Data Engineer
Remote Position - we only hire in certain states!

Company Description
Greater Good Health is a fast-growing organization delivering care to older adults in access starved communities. Our innovative model is led by Nurse Practitioners and focused on outcomes, not volume—meaning we prioritize quality over quantity, spend more time with our patients, and are accountable for their health and well-being.

Whether through our own senior-focused primary care clinics or our suite of integrated clinical solutions for health plans and provider groups, we are making value-based care more accessible and more effective. We help reduce avoidable healthcare costs, improve clinical outcomes, and create a best-in-class patient experience.

If you're passionate about transforming healthcare and delivering meaningful care to those who need it most, Greater Good Health offers a purpose-driven, collaborative, and supportive environment where your work can make a lasting impact.

The Role
To support our growth, we are adding a Senior Data Engineer to our Engineering team! This is a software engineering role. You write production code, design systems, and own them. Your focus is data ingestion, data quality, and platform reliability.

You build and own the pipelines that bring external data into GGH. Files arrive from health plans, partners, and clinical systems. You ingest them, validate them, land them in the raw layer in Snowflake, and publish them to downstream engineering teams in defined message formats. You make sure data arrives accurately and on time.

You work the way our other engineers work: high ownership, small reviewable changes, code review, tests, CI/CD, and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

This is not a reporting or analytics role. You do not build data marts, business models, dashboards, or reports. If your experience is mainly in that work, this role is not a fit.

Responsibilities
  • Data ingestion: Build and run Python pipelines in the cloud that bring member, claims, clinical, engagement, and telephony data from health plans and partners into Snowflake. Sources include SFTP, APIs, and file drops. Validate at each stage and handle errors automatically.
  • Data delivery: Send data from inbound files to services owned by our engineering team in versioned message contracts. Manage schema changes so consumers do not break.
  • Source data quality: Build the testing, reconciliation, and freshness monitoring that keeps source data accurate, complete, and on time. Quarantine bad files instead of loading them. Track lineage from each inbound file to the rows and messages it produced.
  • Reliability: Build logging, metrics, and alerting that catch problems before partners or consumers do. Write runbooks. Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve the pipelines you ship.
  • Platform: Build on AWS across serverless and containerized workloads, with infrastructure defined as code. Keep AWS and Snowflake costs under control.
  • Security: Protect PHI and other sensitive data through least-privilege access, strict tenant isolation, and encryption in transit and at rest. Work with Security and Privacy to turn HIPAA and data use agreement requirements into technical controls.
  • Collaboration and standards: Work with partners and internal teams on file specifications, data requirements, and delivery schedules. Take part in code reviews, support other engineers, document reusable patterns and architecture decisions, and use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly.
Minimum qualifications
  • 7+ years of engineering experience building and running production data pipelines, products, or platforms in the cloud
  • Healthcare data experience, ideally claims and eligibility or EHR data
  • Strong software engineering knowledge applied to data work, including object-oriented design, git, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD. You design modules and interfaces that other engineers extend, not scripts or notebooks
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, with solid experience in ETL or ELT
  • Production experience with Snowflake as a platform, not only as a SQL engine, including Snowpipe, stages and storage integrations, and streams and tasks
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure for data workloads, including storage, orchestration, monitoring, and serverless or containerized compute
  • Proven experience building data quality and observability into production pipelines: automated validation, reconciliation, freshness monitoring, and alerting that catches problems before partners do
  • Experience managing schema evolution and data contracts between producers and consumers
  • Experience building data systems in a high-compliance, multi-tenant environment (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, or similar), including access control, tenant isolation, and encryption in transit and at rest
  • Effective, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools, including testing and verifying AI-generated changes
  • Experience in a startup or other small, fast-paced company, with high autonomy and comfort working through ambiguity
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience managing cloud and Snowflake resources with infrastructure as code (CDK or Terraform)
  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR or HL7
  • Experience with CRM, engagement, telephony, or contact-center data
  • Experience with event streaming (EventBridge, Kinesis, or Kafka) or workflow orchestration (Step Functions, Airflow, or Dagster)
  • Experience with Snowpark for Python, data metric functions, or secure data sharing

Don’t check off every box in the requirements listed above? Please apply anyway! Studies have shown that marginalized communities - such as women, LGBTQ+ and people of color - are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. GGH is dedicated to building an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplace that fosters a sense of belonging – so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to still consider applying.
