Show job description

We are currently looking for three new members to join our Data Engineering team. Depending on your experience and skills, you can join us at Junior, Mid or Senior level.

As a Senior Data Engineer at VELUX, you will shape how data is structured across the organisation and define the standards and frameworks that guide how the rest of the business works with data. At the same time, you will remain hands-on, designing, building and maintaining data pipelines and data models yourself.

Meet your future team:

Our team is based across Warsaw and Hørsholm and consists of 8 members. We work in English and are an international, open-minded and results-driven team that embraces change. We value open and direct communication, transparency and collaboration. We keep communication focused, practical and to the point.

Your responsibilities:

At VELUX, we are moving away from a centralised data model towards an approach where data ownership is embedded across the business. Teams in Sales, Marketing, Supply & Operations and other areas are taking responsibility for their own data products, following the standards and guidelines defined and maintained by our team. This approach is known as data mesh.

The data pipelines and source data you will be responsible for form the foundation on which these teams build and develop their data products.

Our data platform, Reflect, is built on Snowflake and dbt. We use GitHub for version control, pull request reviews and CI/CD, while Prefect and Azure Data Factory support our data ingestion processes. Our engineers also work with AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex as part of their everyday workflow.

In this role, you will:

  • Define the data architecture – establish the boundaries of each data domain, define how data is structured across business areas and data layers, and specify the content of each layer, from raw to staging.
  • Build and maintain the common framework used by business domains, including specifications, requirements templates, standards and documentation.
  • Design, build and maintain data pipelines and data models.
  • Support business domains joining Reflect, our data platform. Assess their capabilities, agree on the scope of support we can provide and ensure that the agreed boundaries are respected.
  • Develop the self-service approach, making it easy for users to find, understand and use the data they need.
  • Establish data observability, including data freshness and quality tests, usage and performance monitoring, and alert routing.
  • Review pull requests and documentation submitted by team members and developers working in business domains.
  • Take ownership of key workstreams within our 2027 roadmap.

What you will bring into the organization:

  • Advanced SQL and Python
  • Production experience with dbt in a large project which means maintaining the models, the tests and the documentation, and the dependencies between projects
  • Experience with non-engineers who build and ship their own data, colleagues who write their own queries, models or reports, and who need an engineer to make this possible
  • Full fluency in English, spoken and written
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders

The following would be an advantage:

  • Production experience with Prefect incl. understanding of schedules, retries, backfills and the analysis of failed runs
  • Experience to set a data architecture, and not only to work inside an architecture that other people set
  • Experience with domain-oriented data ownership, where teams outside the central data team owned their data products
  • Data governance with the focus on ownership roles, criteria that show when users can depend on a data product, catalogue metadata that makes data easy to find, and access management
  • Experience with AI coding environments such as Claude Code or Codex - practical experience with code refactoring, test generation, documentation, or automation of a complete workflow step

Our offer:

  • Cooperation based on trust and respect for the employee
  • Annual bonus
  • Employee Pension Scheme, paid in full by the employer
  • Well-being package: Multisport card or holiday subsidy, life insurance, lunch card and gift cards
  • Private medical care, with telemedicine and rehabilitation
  • Support from the Employee Foundation
  • Hybrid work 3 days in the office
  • Flexible working hours
  • Modern office with daylight, fresh air and high-quality equipment. Parking spaces for employees
  • Massages in the office
  • Referral programme
  • Employee discount on VELUX products
