PURPOSE

The Senior Data Engineer for Service Operations owns the design, delivery and operation of secure, reliable and governed data products on Microsoft Fabric. The role transforms complex Operations data into trusted information for analytics, reporting and AI, while setting engineering standards and providing technical guidance across the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and evolve end-to-end Microsoft Fabric data architectures, including ingestion, medallion/layered data processing, Lakehouse/Warehouse serving layers, and semantic models
  • Own and optimize Microsoft Fabric capacities, workspaces, access controls and production environments.
  • Design and support lakehouses, warehouses, pipelines, notebooks, Spark workloads and reusable data-engineering components.
  • Build scalable data and Power BI semantic models for Service Operations data (e.g. ServiceNow Asset management, CMDB, Incident management).
  • Develop/maintain metadata-driven ingestion and integration frameworks using SQL, Python/PySpark, APIs and enterprise connectors.
  • Implement CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, alerting, recovery and technical documentation.
• Embed data quality, lineage, governance, privacy and security controls throughout the data lifecycle.
• Apply ITIL, ServiceNow CMDB and CSDM knowledge to preserve operational meaning and relationship integrity.
• Use AI responsibly to improve engineering delivery and prototype high-value Service Operations use cases.
• Advise senior stakeholders, lead technical design and coach junior engineers without requiring formal people-management responsibility.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

• At least 5 years in data engineering, analytics engineering or data-platform roles, including ownership of production solutions.
• Hands-on delivery with Microsoft Fabric or a comparable modern lakehouse platform; Fabric expertise is strongly preferred.
• Experience with enterprise data and semantic modelling, shared-platform operations, CI/CD and technical design leadership.
• ServiceNow, CMDB/CSDM, IT Service Management or enterprise operations experience is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Microsoft data platform: Fabric administration, OneLake, lakehouse and warehouse patterns, Data Factory, notebooks, Spark, Power BI semantic models, DAX and performance optimization.
• Engineering: Advanced SQL; strong Python or PySpark; dimensional and relational modelling; APIs; metadata-driven pipelines; Git/GitHub; CI/CD; testing and release management.
• Operations and data governance: Monitoring, troubleshooting, resilience, cost optimization, RBAC, managed identities, data quality, metadata, lineage and auditability.
• Domain: Working knowledge of ITIL, Service Operations, ServiceNow CMDB/CSDM and responsible AI.
• Leadership: Clear communication, stakeholder influence, pragmatic problem solving, coaching and end-to-end ownership.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics or a related discipline.
• Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure, ITIL or ServiceNow CMDB/CSDM certification is an advantage.
