About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist with strong data engineering fundamentals to serve as a technical backbone for our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in diagnosing code issues, troubleshooting failing workflows, and debugging production data pipelines in both Python and R environments on the Databricks platform. Beyond maintaining and supporting existing systems, a successful candidate will develop and enhance AI and data-driven solutions and build practical user-facing applications. This is an opportunity for a data scientist who enjoys moving beyond experimentation and applying modern AI and machine learning techniques to real business problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data transformation and standardization methodologies, including panel dataset specification design, to convert structured/unstructured and digital/non digital data into standardized, digitized formats—enabling the onboarding of new data sources aligned to business priorities
  • Design, maintain, and continuously improve existing Databricks workflows supporting data science, analytics, and AI/LLM workloads. Evaluate and improve the quality, reliability, and performance of existing data pipelines through rigorous testing, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Integrate applications with LLM APIs, databases, enterprise data sources and other services.
  • Build interactive data and AI applications using Streamlit, Flask, FastAPI or other appropriate Python frameworks and libraries.
  • Provide production support and rapid incident response when workflows fail or data quality issues arise
  • Author technical documentation including workflow specifications, process guides, debugging runbooks, and troubleshooting guides
  • Use GenAI applications to accelerate future code development, identify optimization opportunities, and improve pipeline efficiency. Stay current with emerging AI and data science technologies to improve automation and productivity
  • Support ad-hoc troubleshooting projects and strategic initiatives as needed

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Financial Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data science, data engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong programming proficiency in both Python, SQL, and R with demonstrated ability to debug complex code issues
  • Practical experience developing or contributing to Generative AI and LLM-based applications, with an understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, and RAG
  • Ability to read, understand, and fix code written by others across both Python and R
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, schema design, and data consolidation patterns
  • Understanding of Generative AI applications and practical experience leveraging AI/ML tools to enhance code quality and development velocity
  • Knowledge of agentic AI workflows and how they can be applied to data engineering tasks
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities – a must for diagnosing complex issues
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of system reliability
  • Collaborative mindset to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams
