Senior DC Investment Consultant
Do you want to work for a global market leader where you will manage your own exciting and varied portfolio of clients?
Aon are currently recruiting a Senior DC Investment Consultant to join their Defined Contribution (DC) Consulting Team.
This role is suitable for someone with experience advising UK DC pension scheme clients on DC investment strategy and who ideally holds the CFA qualification.
It is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from one of our UK offices.
Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.
As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
The UK DC pensions landscape is evolving at a rapid pace. Economic challenges, legislative change, an ageing population, and asset volatility pose a wide variety of risks and challenges to DC pension schemes. Scheme sponsors are faced with a range of decisions on difficult topics from managing risk, effective governance and scheme design, to improving member engagement, and selecting an appropriate investment strategy for their DC plan.
What the day will look like
You will advise a portfolio of UK DC pension scheme clients and collaborate with colleagues to deliver a range of DC investment consulting services, with client interaction and client lead roles strongly encouraged and supported.
- Lead a portfolio of advisory clients, ensuring high standards of delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their strategic needs.
- Provide strategic advice on DC investment matters, including investment strategy, manager and provider selection, performance monitoring and implementation.
- Lead client projects and support senior colleagues on larger or more complex DC investment assignments.
- Attend client meetings and lead the delivery and communication of investment advice.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, contributing to their professional growth and sharing knowledge across the wider team.
- Identify opportunities to expand client services and support business development.
- Lead and support new business activities, including oversight of tender submissions and pitches.
- Prospect new clients and maintain a strong internal and external network.
- Be recognised as a leader, either as a lead consultant on smaller clients, a DC investment subject matter specialist or a team leader.
- Have an impact beyond the direct team, such as through a specialist team, people management, thought leadership or new business activity.
- Finances: act as an invoice reviewer/approver.
Additional experience that would be valuable
The role will be shaped around the successful candidate’s skills, experience and development interests. The following experience would be particularly valuable:
- Be comfortable engaging with corporate clients and senior stakeholders, tailoring complex investment advice to audiences with varying levels of investment knowledge and experience.
- Experience of DC provider research across Master Trusts and Group Personal Pensions (GPPs), with an interest in emerging areas such as Collective Defined Contribution (CDC).
- An ability to connect provider research with corporate DC investment advice and help develop more joined-up market thinking across specialist teams.
- Commercial acumen and an interest in developing scalable, research-led propositions and collateral that can support recurring fixed-fee revenue.
- Confidence presenting research viewpoints to clients and prospects at specific meetings and pitches, clearly articulating their practical value.
- An interest in thought leadership and innovation, including how artificial intelligence may shape or reshape the DC market.
- The ambition and potential to take on broader leadership responsibility within DC research over time.
Skills and experience that will lead to success:
- Holds the CFA (or other relevant) qualification, with a view to being authorised by Aon to sign out investment advice for clients.
- Strong knowledge of DC pension schemes, investment strategy and relevant regulations.
- Experience advising UK DC pension scheme clients on DC investment matters.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to identify growth opportunities.
- Typically 5–8+ years of experience in DC pensions or investment consulting.
- A proactive attitude, enthusiasm for developing the role and the ability to work independently.
