Are you interested in building provider networks and serving as the clinical leader that supports improved outcomes related to mission driven work? The Sr. Dental Director leads the development and execution of the organization’s provider network strategy to meet overall business, financial, and access goals. Additionally, the Sr. Director leads a team and collaborates with senior leadership to analyze market trends, ensure network adequacy, serve as the clinic expert in various internal and external forums, and ensure an exceptional provider experience.

The pay range for this position in Western Washington varies between $177,900 – $292,200. Washington Dental Service and its affiliates, including Delta Dental of Washington and Arcora Foundation, intends to offer the selected candidate a base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. Base pay will also be adjusted based on the candidate's geographic location.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the long-term provider strategy in partnership with key internal stakeholders, ensuring effective execution and alignment with the organization’s financial, operational, and clinical objectives.
  • Lead Delta Dental interface with and organization of the Member Dentist Advisory Panel (MAP) and Member Nominating Panel.
  • Direct all aspects of provider network development, recruitment, and retention.
  • Analyze the network to identify opportunities for expansion and improvement.
  • Oversees provider contract development and revisions for all networks.
  • Partner with Underwriting and Actuarial to develop and implement innovative provider reimbursement strategies that balance stakeholder financial needs while ensuring robust member access.
  • Develop and advance strategic relationships with key dental partners, vendors, Delta Dental Plans Association, Delta Dental Member Companies, Office of the Insurance Commissioner, and professional dental associations.
  • Provide clinical expertise across the organization while serving as a key liaison to strategic provider partners and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Provider Relations and Provider Experience teams, overseeing day-to-day operations and fostering a high-performing, results-driven culture.
  • Employ advanced principles of workflow management and business process efficiencies by making strategic decisions about system applications and staff deployment.
  • Ensure all network and contracting activities comply with regulatory, contractual, and accreditation standards.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, emerging healthcare issues, provider survey data and competitor activity to inform strategy. 

The experience, skills, and education needed to succeed in the position are outlined below. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from an accredited institution.
  • Current license to practice dentistry in the state of Washington, maintained in good standing.
  • 12+ years of related experience, including 8–10 years of clinical practice and prior leadership or management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with a proven ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in provider relations, including network recruitment and management, provider services, data management, provider engagement, risk and issue identification, strategy development, and budget oversight.
  • Proven ability to build and foster strategic partnerships to influence decisions and deliver outcomes.
  • Knowledge of current dental technologies and dental benefits trends, with the ability to apply technology to improve business outcomes.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret complex information and data and communicate insights clearly to diverse audiences, including the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to interpret complex data to make decisions, projections, and recommendations.
  • Previous experience in the dental benefits industry is preferred.
