Our client is a high-growth, innovative technology company operating in the financial services sector, delivering market-leading automation, research, and data platforms. By streamlining complex workflows, their technology empowers financial professionals and enterprise clients to operate with maximum efficiency, speed, and precision in a heavily regulated landscape.
As an industry trailblazer, their platform combines cutting-edge architecture with embedded AI capabilities-such as automated document ingestion and automated generation tools, to redefine how services are delivered. With a strong national presence and global ambition, their vision is simple yet bold: to be a global leader in data-driven, tech-enabled platform solutions.
Flexible Work Culture: Fully remote / WFH with a Sydney office available for purposeful collaboration, team workshops, and strategic planning.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their team, reporting directly to key technology leadership. In this pivotal position, you will own, maintain, and continuously improve their cloud infrastructure, automated deployment pipelines, and operational tooling.
You will work closely with the internal development teams (8–9 developers) to get new services production-ready, optimize system monitoring, and ensure high platform performance without overspending on resources. As an early adopter of modern technology, our client’s engineering ecosystem heavily embeds AI into both core products and internal workflows; you will leverage modern AI tools (such as Claude Code) to accelerate daily infrastructure-as-code development, pipeline optimization, and code reviews.
Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure & Cloud Management: Design, build, and maintain scalable AWS infrastructure (ECS, RDS, OpenSearch, ElastiCache, API Gateway, CloudFront, Lambda) using Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform / OpenTofu and CDK).
- CI/CD & Automation: Oversee code deployments and manage, improve, and troubleshoot CI/CD builds and pipelines (GitLab CI) to ensure seamless delivery across environments.
- Production Readiness & Review: Work alongside Software Engineers to review architectural implementation proposals and ensure new services are secure, cost-optimized, and production-ready.
- Monitoring & Observability: Extend and improve platform monitoring, system health tracking, and alerting systems to maintain high availability across 80% Linux / 20% Windows environments.
- AI-Assisted Engineering: Safely and effectively utilize AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic models) to generate, validate, debug, and refactor IaC scripts, automation pipelines, and operational tooling.
- Quality & Automated Testing: Assist in implementing automated testing tools and mentor development team members on automated deployment principles, conventions, and best practices.
- Security & Compliance: Protect client data confidentiality and ensure infrastructure complies with stringent security and privacy requirements through code-level controls and documentation (Confluence/Git).
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Experience: At least 4–6+ years of dedicated experience in DevOps, Cloud Architecture, and Infrastructure Engineering.
- AWS Cloud Expertise: Strong, hands-on experience in cloud architecture and networking on AWS native services (including ECS, RDS, Lambda, OpenSearch, and API Gateway).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep practical expertise using Terraform (OpenTofu) and/or AWS CDK to manage, scale, and automate infrastructure.
- CI/CD & Version Control: Demonstrated experience managing continuous integration and delivery systems (e.g., GitLab CI) and Git workflows.
- AI-Assisted Tooling: Demonstrated proficiency or strong willingness to safely integrate AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into daily IaC workflows, prompt engineering, and code refactoring.
- Systems Administration: Experience administering Linux environments (primary ~80%) along with Windows Server systems (~20%).
- Software Engineering Foundations: Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and basic script/code development (Node.js/JavaScript background is a plus).
- Communication & Autonomy: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive problem-solving mindset and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Eligibility: Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) status required.
