Platform9: A Better Way to Go Cloud Native
Cloud native is a strategic priority for technology leaders at nearly every company around the world. Going to cloud native is a complex, challenging, but necessary process for businesses and organisations, regardless of size or industry.
As cloud native grows and matures, many enterprises are looking to leverage powerhouse technologies like Kubernetes to accelerate their adoption, but they are faced with a limited set of options. Public cloud Kubernetes is expensive and locks you into their infrastructure and platform services. DIY Kubernetes gives you more infrastructure flexibility and control, but it is challenging and requires operation skills you don’t have. Platform9 is the third option for your cloud-native future.
Platform9 is the only container management and orchestration solution that supports the complete lifecycle of the cloud-native journey on infrastructure anywhere. We combine the flexibility of DIY Kubernetes, with the simplicity of public cloud Kubernetes. Platform9 is a better way to go cloud native, paving the way for an open distributed cloud future.
Innovative enterprises like Juniper, Kingfisher Plc, Mavenir, Redfin, Rackspace and Cloudera achieve 4x faster time-to-market, up to 90% reduction in operational costs, and 99.99% uptime. Platform9 is an inclusive, globally distributed company backed by leading investors.
All this means that the future for Platform9, for our customers, and for our team is about as bright and exciting as it gets. It’s the best time to join our highly collaborative, friendly, and rich learning environment. We have a high energy start-up culture. We value customer obsession, innovation, openness, bias towards action, and speed. And we are looking to add a seasoned DevOps manager to our tight-knit and engineering team
Position Summary
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will own key parts of the infrastructure behind our SaaS platform, from design through day-to-day reliability. This role is for a hands-on engineer with 6 to 10 years of experience in DevOps and cloud-native technologies.
As a key member of the Engineering Operations team, you will be a go-to engineer for Kubernetes, automation, and SaaS platform scaling. You will turn the team’s DevOps roadmap into working systems, replacing manual processes with robust, scalable automation.
You will contribute to architecture decisions, best practices, and process improvements across the team. Expect to keep our infrastructure reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient as we grow, and to mentor junior engineers along the way.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design, build, and operation of core infrastructure for our SaaS platform, including Kubernetes clusters, OpenStack environments, and supporting services on AWS and OCI.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployments with infrastructure as code (Terragrunt/Terraform).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in partnership with the engineering teams.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and observability so we catch problems before customers do.
- Troubleshoot production issues, take part in the on-call rotation, and drive root-cause analysis to closure.
- Apply Kubernetes and cloud security best practices across the stack.
- Keep infrastructure reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient as usage grows.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and the DevOps roadmap, and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and clear runbooks.
Requirements
- 6 to 10 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, ideally in high-growth, cloud-native environments.
- Strong production experience with Kubernetes, including cluster administration, upgrades, networking, and troubleshooting.
- Solid grasp of Kubernetes security best practices, such as RBAC, network policies, and secrets management.
- Experience deploying, operating, and scaling SaaS platforms with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Proficiency with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Terragrunt, or similar) on AWS or OCI.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Solid Linux administration and networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and NAT.
- Incident management experience, including on-call, troubleshooting under pressure, and writing clear postmortems.
- A track record of owning infrastructure projects end to end with minimal supervision.
- A holistic, systems-engineering approach to delivering technology solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with OpenStack or other open-source infrastructure projects.
- Advanced experience with CI/CD methodologies and tooling.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Cortex, Loki, or Groundcover.
- Experience defining and tracking SLOs, SLIs, and other operational metrics.
- Configuration management experience with Salt, Ansible, Chef, or similar.
- Familiarity with industry-standard security practices and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be a hands-on engineer with a strong sense of ownership for your work and a passion for working in a data-driven organization.
