Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer

On behalf of our client, a fast-growing company building a payment orchestration platform, we’re looking for their first Platform Engineer to build and operate the AWS infrastructure behind it, including the environment that handles cardholder data.

You’ll work directly with the engineering team to make production secure, reliable and straightforward to operate. This is a hands-on role: you’ll write infrastructure code, improve deployments, investigate incidents and test that recovery procedures work.

What you'll do

• Design, build and operate our AWS infrastructure using infrastructure as code.

• Build CI/CD pipelines with reviewed changes, traceable deployments and reliable rollback.

• Build and operate the cardholder data environment, implement its infrastructure security controls and maintain evidence for PCI DSS assessments.

• Manage production access, conduct access reviews and enforce least privilege.

• Manage encryption keys, secrets and certificates, including rotation.

• Operate PostgreSQL databases, including availability, encryption, backups and tested restores.

• Establish infrastructure recovery plans and run regular recovery drills.

• Build logging, monitoring and alerting that help the team detect and investigate problems.

• Respond to production incidents, maintain runbooks and turn incident findings into improvements.

• Work with engineers, external auditors and penetration testers to resolve infrastructure security findings.

What we're looking for

• Experience building and operating production systems as a senior platform, DevOps or site reliability engineer.

• Deep hands-on AWS expertise, especially networking, IAM and KMS.

• Experience managing infrastructure with AWS CDK or Terraform.

• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and operating containerised services in production.

• Experience operating PostgreSQL in production, including backups and recovery.

• Strong security fundamentals, including TLS, secrets management and least privilege.

• Ability to write code that automates infrastructure and operational tasks.

• Experience investigating production incidents and improving the systems and procedures behind them.

Bonus points if you have experience in:

• PCI DSS or another regulated production environment

• Payments or fintech

• TypeScript and AWS CDK

• Mutual TLS and certificate lifecycle management
